Day 5 of proving bird names makes no sense.
The naming is all over the place for this fairly common north American warbler. A name is supposed to describe the species/paint anyone a mental picture easily. This species got its name for the shape of the nest it buildsπ€¦π»ββοΈ

Did you just write βI envied what he builtβ when all he built was a career out of hatred, homophobia, transphobia and racism? You envied that??
First ever record of Pectoral sandpiper from eastern India in its entirety. Photographed off the coast of Bay of Bengal in frazergunj by a team of 5 bird watchers at midday yesterday. Found roaming in a pond a bit away from the actual shore. This is a vagrant for India.
Photograph off Facebook.
Hoping to see this in Kolkata too
Found some people really upset about a death across the world. More than a genocide actually. So it seems to be a good day to post this.
Aesthetically speaking itβs good. But common name of a species is supposed to give one a mental image by being adequately descriptive. Thatβs the entire reason behind all of these bird names being weird
Day 5 of proving bird names makes no sense.
This is another interesting one. This fairly common Australian robin was called brown flycatcher till 1926. Then its name changed under colonialism supposedly due to its winter call.
Now itβs a mob boss. Or a porn star.

Intellectual and moral rot has set in so deep in this country that a known YouTuber is defending corruption?? What????
These specimens are above and beyond the level of mockery and insults. I refuse to acknowledge them as humans anymore
Yes
Yes, eta ekta anek boro reason
Yes. But thereβs a bigger point here. This name hasnβt been revised in all these years.

Day 4 of proving bird names makes no sense.
This is an interesting one. It was supposed to have a hummingbird added to its name at the end. But during some point, someone decided to omit it and that name have stuck since! Like what???
I give upππ»

Definitely not red-bellied woodpecker thatβs for sure
Ohh my god. A flycatcher is stuck with a depressing name because someone wrongly identified it instead of pewee. Talk about injusticeπ
Day 3 of proving bird names makes no sense. Like what is even this? Can you be any more literal??

I started in uni. I used walk a lot so my roommate suggested why not play pokemon go because he knew I was a pokemon fan. Addicted to it since then but quit around 2years back because it became unplayable

Please dadabhai suggest something nice. Iβm absolutely stunned by the names
Saturday was sad. So happy Sunday?
This west Mexican wren is unbothered by the world and permanently off sadness.
Dat 2 of providing further proof that avian naming makes no sense.
I uninstalled at level 44. There were even more kangaskhan if I spoofed
I wouldβve traded with you. Got three that way. My roommate used to spoof and caught about 14. Gave me 3 for some oddishπ
They threw appropriateness into the furnace. Also it seems so much like a scam!
Is that fried chickenππ
Who determines sadness of flies
Sir βthat bird looks kinda sad to letβs name him sadβ is a loooong pipeline. Also flycatchers look like this, their entire personality is like this. If you see a grey-headed canary flycatcher in the wild, you would think the same too
Okay then.
Letβs start with this inexplicable name. A Jamaican flycatcher who is forbidden to be happy.
This is one of those names that absolutely shut me up with the suddenness, the fact that it hasnβt been changed since is even more ridiculous.
I would loveeee to know the lore behind its name
I donβt need to do it in insta. I can do it here.
