while there's nothing that's purely a negation or affirmation and both of these come into play, the relative absence of considering the second aspect, of course, comes from the misogyny of believing that women (and people who aren't women but are grouped in it) have no desires of their own
that line's always been a little weak to me because it couches it in terms of the primary engagement with BL being a negative desire ("what's left" to escape a universal misogyny) rather than a positive desire ("i'd still pick BL even if misogyny didn't exist because i desire it")
"women like BL because they don't have to worry about comparing themselves to or projecting onto a female character" maybe but also it's because a good 1/3rd of all cis women are probably either nonbinary bisexuals or gay/bi guys but society's nowhere near ready to open that up yet
i hope every last one of them experiences a trauma that they never learn how to cope with in a way society allows so they too can feel the fucking shame i do
