When you have a society that doesn't require everyone hunting, digging for grubs and gathering food all day, then you have a society that can develop, invent, and eventually better itself.

Fittest means most suited to its environment not strongest or fastest.

For humans it means leveraging collective strengths and pooling knowledge.

I think you missed the point; they want us to stop creating things, stop speaking out, stop resisting. You're totally allowed and valid to feel how you feel - this increasingly alien and hostile world wants us to conform and consume, and THAT is what we need to fight.

if you look at office space and go "well they had a bunch of old tech that took time to use," yeah now imagine doing the exact same work but with an infinitely faster computer, instantaneous communication, and decades worth of pre-programmed digital spreadsheets that you just punch new numbers into.

i remain forever grateful that i watched office space, my only regret is not watching it sooner. its truly a satirical tincture of corporate americas worst traits, highly recommend it for anyone else who isnt old enough to have watched it when it came out.

and yes i do think that we should just have ubi rather than unemployment. give folks money so they can focus on filling out job applications instead of filling out unemployment reports. its shrimple

i think having the unemployment tax rates scale with the value of successful companies that arent employing the unemployed makes infinitely more sense than just having a flat rate regardless of the companies contributions to the economy. if the stocks are banging theyre fine. hire or pay more taxes.

does that not make complete sense? like, people need to work, a business is doing well without the need for as many employees as there are available, so their excess value should be contributed to the unemployment fund more significantly, rather than put directly back into the stock value wholesale.

this is the last week ill be accounting posting since the class ends friday, but like. if companies pay both the federal and state unemployment taxes then why cant the federal unemployment tax rate scale with the companies stock value and be directly contributed to a UBI fund? why arent we doin that
