Our results challenge the prevailing model that avidity necessarily leads to mechanically robust linkages; instead, we show how mechanosensitivity can arise as an intrinsic, nonequilibrium property of multivalency. 10/13

This weekend we projected cells and filaments on the roof of the @museeorsay.bsky.social in Paris, then we contracted it with a pinch of myosin.
And it was fabulous!

Grateful to have been part of this art/science project & thx to @manuelthery.bsky.social @lblanchoin.bsky.social & the CytoMorphoLab

Nice video, Alfredo! But why don't you show your nice unpublished contribution? Fear of being scooped? The Orsay Museum is worth all the journals!

Last night @museeorsay.bsky.social we saw fluorescence images of cells or protein filaments seemingly grow along the internal structures of the ceiling of the main hallway. It was mesmerising I loved it Science is Art! More of this please! Congratulations @manuelthery.bsky.social very cool πŸ€©πŸ€“

A speculative model of ion channel NOMPC bound to a segment of microtubule (both from Drosophila melanogaster). NOMPC surface model is shown in shades of pink, Ξ±-tubulin in white, and Ξ²-tubulin in sky blue.

If you like sproinger and microtubule, behold NOMPC/TRPN, sensor of gentle touch in flies and fish! Cell deformation and microtubule movements are thought to compress the spring-like ankyrin repeats and in turn gate the channel.

Non-motile microbes are not prisoners of diffusive transport. Just their metabolic activity can be sufficient to stir up the ambient fluid and cause explosive long-range dispersal -- a "metabolic firework".

What is more, this metabolic firework can result in fractal morphogenesis of the resulting colony. We think this is due to a hydrodynamic analogue of Diffusion Limited Aggregation, which we term Circulation Driven Aggregation.
