06.03.1943|A transport of around 1000 Jews (including 40 women) departed from the Drancy transit camp in France to SS-Sonderkommando #Sobibor. The transport underwent selection at the Flugplatz labour camp in Lublin. Only 5 men who boarded that train survived the #Holocaust.

06.03.1940|Polish woman Wiktoria Foltarz was arrested by the Germans in Toruń. In mid-April she was deported to #Ravensbrück. Later she was transferred to #Majdanek and registered as prisoner no. 3135. During the camp evacuation she was sent to Ravensbrück again in April 1944. She survived.

04.03.1944|Thanks to the appeal of the Polish Red Cross, Stanisław Nowakowski was released from #Majdanek. He was deported to KL Lublin on 5 December 1943. The release note was issued while Stanisław was lying ill in the camp infirmary📷 at field V. The Red Cross saved his life.

03.03.1989|Polish Jew and #Holocaust survivor Stanisław Szmajzner passed away in Goiânia, Brasil. He was deported to the German #Sobibór death camp in May 1942 from Opole Lubelskie. Selected for labour, he worked as a goldsmith and in the camp maintenance. He escaped during the prisoner uprising.

03.03.1881|Kazimierz Kryński was born. He was a doctor of medicine, Polish Army and Home Army soldier. The Soviet NKVD arrested him on 13.08.1944 and imprisoned him on #Majdanek grounds. Major Kryński was deported to the Ryazan Gulag on 23 August. Kazimierz survived and returned to Poland in 1947.

03.03.2016|Polish Jew and #Holocaust survivor Samuel Lerer from Żółkiewka near Lublin passed away. He was deported to #Sobibór in May 1942. At the ramp we has selected for labour, he handled animals bred in the camp. Lerer escaped during the prisoner uprising and later lived in Berlin and the USA.

28.02.1967|Austrian Nazi, T4 euthanasia programme perpetrator, commandant of the #Sobibór and #Treblinka extermination camps SS-Hauptsturmführer Franz Stangl was arrested in Brazil. He was deported to Germany, brought to trial in Düsseldorf, and sentenced to life imprisonment.

26.02.1944|Transport of 227 Jewish prisoners transferred from #Auschwitz arrived at #Majdanek. They were the members of Sonderkommando working in Birkenau, and as eyewitnesses of the German crimes they were all shot near the camp crematorium shortly after their arrival in KL Lublin.

23.02.1935|David (Deddie) Zak was born. He lived with his parents, Judith and Simon, at Uiterwaardenstraat 71 in Amsterdam. The Dutch Jewish Zak family were deported to the German Nazi #Sobibor death camp and murdered in the gas chambers on 11.06.1943. Deddie was just 8 years old. #Holocaust

20.02.1943|Kazimierz Kolbuszewski, renowned Polish literary historian, professor at the Lwów and Wilno universities, perished at #Majdanek. The Germans arrested him for aiding Jews since Kazimierz was giving shelter to his Jewish student, and a Jewish woman who worked as his housekeeper.

The construction plan of #Majdanek from 18.02.1942 was considerably modified and reduced over time, but its comparison with the 1944 aerial photograph of the camp grounds allows to identify the part with the six prisoner fields that was actually fulfilled.

17.02.1915|Maurycy Feuerstein was born. War interrupted his studies at the Higher School of Economics in Kraków. He worked in a carpenter’s workshop at the Kołomyja ghetto. In September 1942 he was deported to SS-Sonderkommando #Belzec and murdered in the gas chambers. #Holocaust

17.02.1943|Anton Thumann became the prisoner camp commander (Schutzhaftlagerführer) at #Majdanek, taking one of the most important positions in the garrison hierarchy. In the survivors’ accounts he was described as one of the most merciless, brutal, and cruel SS-man in the camp.

January 1942|Christian Wirth brought the first Trawnikimänner to the German Nazi death camp SS-Sonderkommando #Belzec. At first they were tasked with digging mass graves and masking the camp during its construction. Later they worked as sentry guards and escorted the victims into the gas chambers.

20.01.1943|Stanisław Rozwałka, a Polish farmer from Siedliska died at #Majdanek. He was imprisoned at the camp in the autumn of 1942 because his children carelessly set a grain warehouse on fire. He was registered as prisoner no. 7573.

19.01.1990|Ukrainian Jew Alexander Pechersky passed away in Rostov-on-Don. As a Red Army lieutenant he was captured, held as a POW, and deported to the #Sobibor extermination camp in September 1943. He was picked for work during selection and later co-led the prisoner uprising on 14 October 1943.

16.01.1944|French prisoner François Letterrier died at the infirmary of the #Majdanek concentration camp. He worked as a clerk in Paris and was sent to KL Lublin in late 1943 in one of the so-called transports of the sick. According to the camp records, François died of “blood circulation failure”.

15.01.1943|Jadwiga Ankiewicz was arrested in an enormous round-up that the Germans held in the streets of Warsaw. She was taken to the Gestapo Pawiak prison. Two days later Jadwiga was deported to #Majdanek. She was just sixteen at that time.

08.01.1943|First large transport of Polish political prisoners arrived at #Majdanek. 145 women and 571 men were deported from the Gestapo prisons in Radom, Piotrków Trybunalski, Częstochowa, Kielce and Skarżysko-Kamienna. Camp SS-men replaced their names with numbers engraved on metal tags.
