FWIW, if you do step away, I’ll miss your posts and nerding out a little with you about pinball every now and then. I’d totally follow you on a blog or whatever else you might to do. Not saying this to make you doubt yourself. Just saying that I appreciate the parts of you that you share here.

That totally makes sense. Things like this should be something that adds something meaningful to your life. If it’s doing the opposite, then stepping away makes sense because you’ve got to prioritize taking care of yourself and spending energy on things that bring you happiness and joy.

It kicked off almost a whole year of people suddenly being mindful about the colors they use for highlights in word/excel documents and adding textual cues and such. It was amazing.

Ha ha, I loved this so much. I’m colorblind and it was amazing to be able to determine what the right colors were while everyone else was struggling to figure it out. It was so cool to get to share my daily challenges with the people around me while they were in a very relatable position.

I’m against the torment nexus genAI/LLMs because they felt like they were intentionally developed to be abusive, whereas tools like ML translation were developed for a more general purpose and are being abused by companies/people who are trying to cut corners.
Just sharing where I draw the lines.

If I cut this process out, I would probably only have paid him to translate like 4-5 pages. I think I’m up to between 20-30 pages now. It continues to grow because I have some basic confidence that paying for this work will yield some good results for my needs while protecting my limited funds.

I’m using Google Translate to get an idea of what might be on some specific pages, and that’s helping me to dowse out what I think might have the information I’m looking for. I’m marking those pages and saving money to pay my friend (who’s a professional translator) to translate them.

Ironically, at least in my case, it’s going to create some professional translation work. I’m working on a research project and I have a bunch of Japanese game guides I want info from. I don’t have the hundreds/thousands of dollars to have these full guides translated. But I can afford some of it.

I don’t think this is necessarily a bad thing. Services like Google Translate are imperfect but suitable for basic needs. Using Translate to get through a menu in a game you’re playing or to translate the name of a product at a store isn’t robbing work from professional translators.

Re-shelved and organized my Japanese Mega Drive games for the first time in about a year. I’m up to about 140 unique ones, and managed to fit it all by double stacking. More shelves? Maybe someday!

Various styles of compression gloves
Happy Black History Month!
It costs 0$ to Repost a Black disabled queer small business! It could lead to my next sale.
These compression gloves are great quality and have helped so many people reduce their hand pain and swelling. It allows them to do things longer!

A new Kirby’s Pinball Land that supports playing in vertical mode. When in handheld mode, you can play vertically using the included pink Flip Grip.
I know, I’m a broken record and I’ve been unrealistically asking for this for 7 or so years.

A boxed copy of Ottifanten Pinball for the Game Boy Advance.
That’s neat! I don’t have that one but coincidentally I just got a copy of Ottifanten Pinball for the GBA. It was only released in Germany and a buddy of mine went out of his way to track it down for me while he was on vacation there last year.

For everything Crunchyroll fails at, the people working there who take the time to sub everything with Aegisub so it matches the style and angle of the original text deserve all the praise in the world. They should probably be getting like twice their salary for how thorough they are.

Translate relevant onscreen text. Crunchyroll and HIDIVE seem to be the only ones I’ve found doing this meaningfully. It’s maddening seeing things like a text exchange or a letter that isn’t read aloud presented onscreen with no translation. Netflix having Komi of all things is an absolute travesty.

Pure nostalgia.
Final Fantasy Legend III, GB, 1993, SquareSoft.
This was the only video game that my parents ever bought for just me. Video Games were for boys, so they didn't like my growing interests. As it was all I wanted that year for my birthday, my brother convinced them.

The side of the Honest Ed's storefront at dusk. The sign is full of beautiful incandescent lights, though some are burnt out in a way that makes it more charming than it would look if they were all perfectly lit.
The inside of the comic book store The Labyrinth. There are two rows of bookshelves. The shelf in the middle is low enough that you can look over it. All of them are full of books, trade paperbacks, and toys. There's a poster with their mascot, a cute little dinosaur with a bow tie that's smiling while holding a pencil and a book. My beautiful wife is in the corner glowing as she takes it all in.
The inside of the A&C Games retro gaming store. It's thin with just enough room for two people to squeeze by. The store is packed with amazing video games from floor to ceiling. It's bursting at the seams with awesomeness. My beloved wife is chatting with the wonderful guy who is working behind the counter. She's mid conversation with him and somewhat deflated because we already spent our money for the trip and she noticed there's a boxed PAL copy of New Ghostbusters II for the NES behind him (outside the frame of the picture). We picked it up before we left. :)
A picture outside of Sonic Boom, a store that sells movies, music, games, etc... There is a sign to the left that says they buy and sell compact discs and DVD's. Unfortunately you can't see much of the store inside because the photo is taken from across the street.
Going through some pictures from our honeymoon to Toronto back in 2010. It was amazing to explore the city and I'll never forget how absolutely wonderful all of the people we met were. I want to make another trip up there even though I know a lot of the places we went to aren't there anymore.
