Good question. When this comes up, I usually ask how their home was built, how the construction was financed, and whether someone made a profit from it.
I don't know and wish I knew how much profit the builder made when their home was built in 1950, 1970, 1980, etc.
In the same way that not clearing sidewalks of snow and ice make impedes accessibility, not using alt text for images you post impedes accessibility for people who are visually impaired or have low vision to understand what an image shows
