Oda really said "lemme make a real villain, a greedy self absorbed slaver tyrant and not just a queer person or anti establishment leftist painted as a bad guy"
Update: I promise I am going to get back to art posting. it's been a lot. I fled the US in April and have been building a new life in Spain. It's been a really good time so far. I think I've needed a break from making and doing and just let myself feel the rhythm of Spanish life for a while.
Doflamingo is uniquely interesting to me in that he's one of very few villain type anime characters that I find truly irredeemably bad. he got that shit on but I just CANNOT like him regardless lmao
literally like a kid on the playground calling time out because he's about to get out in tag π

Sunset on Friday 18th December 1908. I have cleaned-up this astounding autochrome photograph of twilight 117 years ago, taken in colour by Julien GΓ©rardin. It is an original colour plate, not colourised.
the only thing that makes me feel patriotic is ice cold blasting A/C god bless amurica
All this to say, it's not that they can't. It's that they won't. 5/
A populace that is poor, overworked, tired, afraid, and desperate is easier to control than an educated, well connected, and "secure" one. Isolate them with poor language and social skills, no history context, and a culture of antiintellectualism. 4/
If a man with unscrupulous interests wants to exploit power, he can do so by preventing his people from "rejecting" him. Make it difficult to survive. Make them busy. Make them distracted. Make them afraid. And make them fear the alternatives to compliance (in real terms... like homelessness.) 3/
We're taught, in plain terms, that leaders remain in power through popular will. If someone is ineffective, or bad, they lose. But in many cases, rulers actually stay in power through force. Not necessarily outright violence, though. Through systemic violence. 2/
When I was a kid, I seemed at a loss as to why it seemed so many countries didn't "have it together". Their people desperately poor, government ineffectual, violence and crime. As an adult, I feel like I finally have perspective to talk about this. (a thread) 1/
all that's missing is a sad little Elon cutout descending in a shitty stop motion
