Our martial art has a lot of self defence moves we need to learn (I'm up to 15 so far) Many of them can be quite subtle, and can't be learned, let alone perfected, in a single class. But when you get it right, putting someone bigger than you in a pain compliance is a powerful feeling.

Not so much, no. People tend to be a bit more specific about where they're going and how they're getting there. "Flying to Hawaii/Alaska this weekend"; "driving across the border to Mexico/up to Canada"; "Flying to Europe next week"
