Bleed, bleed, poor country!
Great tyranny, lay thou thy basis sure,
For goodness dare not check thee; wear thou thy wrongs,
The title is affeer’d!

Amy Sherald on her portraiture, her subjects' gaze, and the impact of painting Michelle Obama's portrait Amy Sherald spent years painting in obscurity, and almost died from a rare heart condition. Now 52, the artist behind Michelle Obama's official portrait is one of America's most celebrated painters.

Anderson Cooper interviews Amy Sherald on @60Minutes pairs perfectly with Katy Hessel's AMY SHERALD monograph in the Yale Press catalog.

White House announces more aggressive review of Smithsonian museums In a letter to the Smithsonian’s leader, White House officials said they would review exhibition text, curation, exhibition planning and collections starting with eight museums.

The question no one seems to be asking is whether or not the Smithsonian will comply with these outrageous demands. As a public/private agency that’s not part of the Executive Branch, its doesn’t have to. wapo.st/4mIsITW

A few tips for NEH grantees:
1) if you've spent money on an awarded grant but have not yet drawn down the funds, make sure to submit the paperwork to drawn down funds ASAP.

2) the NYTimes article suggests that "DOGE" might cancel awards. If you receive an email from DOGE cancelling your NEH award,
