It's a good question. As I said in the podcast, I think the "ordinary" element Browning was keying on was the idea that they weren't young, Nazi-indoctrinated people and came from a very left-wing city.

In this episode, I talked with Carolyn Dean about witnessing the Holocaust and empathy. We had a wide-ranging conversaion about the appropriate use of images and also about bystanding and the challenge of indifference.
A LOT to think about!
