A rough, wooden tabletop holding an empty lined notebook with a pen leaning onto it and a cup of espresso nearby in a white demitasse cup and with saucer. The scripted text "Newsletter Incoming" sits at the top and bottom of the image, which has a white header and footer to house the text.
I do try to get them out monthly, and this time I'm going to make it! There are some general updates and maybe a small announcement/admission of my own guilt that a few folks might want to hear...Remember you get a prequel chapter and the first chapter of Involuntarily Immortal just for signing up!
Pictured is the fabric of a knitted baby blanket in progress. It's a bright blue with little fuzzy bits in yellow, white, red, gray, blue, orange, and pink. The pattern is columnar, with vertical repeats of that look like leaves attached to stems weaving together from side to side up the chain.
Some days, knitting gets me through. This baby blanket pattern's wind-blown leaves are satisfying and easy to repeat without feeling stale or boring, making it ideal for keeping my hands busy during meetings. #knitting #knitter
YOU GUYS. I just listened to the 15-minute checkpoint for Stormkindler's audiobook and it is AMAZING! I loved Cheryl-Annette Parker's performance on Sunchaser, but so far this one's shaping up to be even better.
Only a few more months and we'll have both books available!
Well, February felt like it lasted about ten days. After a 96-day January it felt odd.
Screenshot snippet of the Google Docs app in dark mode (black background with white text) with the bolded words "Chapter I-haven't-been-doing-those-but-I'll-have-to-add-them"
I started out with good intentions. There were chapter breaks every so often, at semi-regular intervals.
Then I got caught up in the story and chapter breaks fell by the wayside. I lost count thousands of words ago.
Don't be like me. #amwriting #authorproblems
In a miraculous turn of events, I've managed to get a few thousand words in over the last week. Things are getting interesting in my WIP...
Four almost-hemispheres of cake, two golden yellow, two red velvet, cooling on racks on a kitchen island with a brown countertop. Four plastic containers of rainbow sprinkles sit behind them, stacked two by two.
"Mom, for my birthday I want a golf ball shaped cake that barfs sprinkles."
I got you, buddy.
Picture of a middle-aged white woman with glasses, brown hair tied back and braided, with white sports earbuds in, staring through leafless branches into a cloudy sky.
If it's gonna be this cloudy and warm, the LEAST those clouds could do is rain on me to cool me off.
But noooooooo...

A black background with smoky wing shapes sits behind script text that says "Emily Barlow Fantasy Author," with pictures of each book cover below and to the right of the text. The titles from top right to bottom left are Sunchaser, Stormkindler, The Raven's Children, and Involuntarily Immortal. Only Sunchaser is available in audiobook, but Stormkindler (its sequel) is in process as of February 2026.
It's a 3x Kindle points day! If you haven't picked any of these up yet, they're all under $4 for ebook--less than $12 for all 4! #booksky

I don't think there's enough coffee for this Wednesday.
For reference, this is the updated version.
This is the OG cover for my third book, Involuntarily Immortal. You know, the one my best friend told me must look like the Trapper-Keeper I had in middle school.
Which is, of course, part of the reason I revamped it.
What do you think about this cover?
Pictured are my black snow boots and white snow pants with gray accents standing atop the frozen mess that is my yard. A tiny layer of snow is sifted over at least an inch of ice with footprints--both human and dog--etched into it after crunching through it yesterday.
It's still cold, and we still have a lot of ice (and I mean a lot), but power is coming back on for folks in our area. If you see crews working, take a moment to thank them or at least send some good thoughts their way; they're the real MVPs. This was my backyard this morning. It's all frozen.
Getting through the muddle in the middle...always interesting, but I have a path forward now. Got stuck for a bit.
I crossed 50k words in the next Bagiverse novel tonight! About halfway through. #amwriting #fantasy
Image for The Moribund Monarch's Masterpiece featuring cute graphics. On each corner is a girl with a bubble talking about what the book is about. Text reads -A medieval fantasy world ruled by an all-powerful immortal monarch -MC is strong, cunning, loyal, and skeptical of the monarch's divinity -MC is the leader of a band of rebels. If he can kill the monarch, he can make a better world for all -Stunning magic battles, schemes within schemes, and amazing plot twist!
I'm a judge in the Speculative Fiction Indie Novella Championships (SFINCS, pronounced 'sphinx') this year and I want to tell you about some novellas! The Moribund Monarch's Masterpiece is a must for fans of Dark Fantasy. This book had me in a chokehold and I wish it could have been longer!
That gives some anime monstrous transformation vibes just from the cover.
Wooooooo, three hours of sleep!

Pictured are two small feet wearing bright gold and orange sneakers with individual toe pockets. The lacesv and red the and details on the shoes are black, as are the bits of sole visible around the edge. Ankle-high black Injinji brand socks peek above the tops of the shoes over the marled purple leggings the subject is wearing. (She made them herself and is very proud of how they came out.)
I don't know who needs to hear this today, but check the mileage on your shoes. Walking shoes, running shoes, whatever you use them for, if you bought them in 2024 (or before) and have been active at all in the past year, you probably need to replace them. #running #runner #saveyourjoints

A white woman with brown hair, grey eyes, and glasses, wearing a striped tan and grey sweater and dangly earrings. She's pointing at a sign hanging in front of beige blinds that reads "YEEAR" instead of "YEAR." Apparently this sign was ordered from Temu.
Happy New Yeear!
Or year. However you celebrate.
