Michael Sharp PRO Crime 101 2026 ε€ͺ Watched Mar 5, 2026 Pleasant enough. Could've been more everything: more exciting, more funny, more moving, etc. There are gigantic plot holes and implausibilities. But it's a good L.A. movie-very of the city, lots of terrible beauty. The chase scenes are decent. The characters are likable (this may actually be more bug than feature, actually). In the end it's not dark enough for me. Everyone's too decent. Poor Barry Keoghan had to take all the Badness upon himself, embody it, radiate it. Best performance in the movie. The Hemsworth guy is perfectly cast to play someone handsome and VACANT. Whatever. It's not great but I was not bored. PS Jennifer-Jason Leigh! This movie needed way more of her (true of every movie) (Regal, Binghamton NY, 3-5-26)

The greatest discovery of January for me. Just a delightful perfect 90 minutes of late 70s modern-woman problems. With a side of Charles Durning.
Michael Sharp PRO They Won't Believe Me 1947 They Wont Believe Me Rewatched Feb 5, 2026 Mix one part Double Indemnity and one part Out of the Past, then thin it out with a lot of tap water and throw it all in the dirt and you've got this movie-all the trappings of a proper noir (voiceover, schemer in over his head, Jane Greer, etc.) but starring the guy from "Father Knows Best." Fred MacMurray could play against type (beautifully), Robert Young cannot. He does his best Walter Neff imitation (down to calling Susan Hayward "baby" all the time), but no dice. He doesn't have the heft or the potential menace. Maybe the dumbest ending of any "noir" I've ever seen. Supposed to be some kind of O. Henry ironic twist. But oh brother, no. Just silly. (HBO Max, 2/5/26)
Iβve been neglecting noir (βnoir-glectingβ) this winter. Thatβs gonna change real soon. Getting back in the spirit with a rewatch of this semi-charming swing/miss from 1947
Mmm, grief gravy
This movie goes hard. Deceptively quiet and low-key but thereβs lots of dark shit under the surface. And that endingβa real twist i somehow did not see coming (in criterionβs βNordic Noirβ collection this month)

βΉ Michael Review 000 Michael Sharp PRO Kiss Me Deadly 1955 DEADLY Rewatched Nov 19, 2025 Taught this movie today and quickly realized that trying to explain its greatness makes you sound like an insane person. "Ok so the plot is convoluted beyond belief and the situations and characters are so preposterous that they border on camp at times and the Great Whatsit is an absolutely bonkers scifi McGuffin and the main character is a completely unlikable creep and sometimes there are shot decisions that only a demented person would make and the sound isn't even synced right in a couple places ... and yeah it's the greatest piece of filmed entertainment of the 1950s. Any questions?"

I didn't wanna be the big history nerd who ruins everyone's fun, but there was something about the armour that was bugging me.
