Thank you so so much, Vaida.
Flyer for book: Ellie Crookes The Many Joans of Arc: Embodying Medievalism Worldwide This book centres on the phenomenon of the Joans of Arc —a global medievalist trend of women being celebrated as their nation’s own Joan. Though these women bear the name of a medieval French woman, use of the title is bound to diverse and shifting preoccupations, prejudices, and prerogatives of the post-medieval world. Joan’s legend has been moulded to fit a vast array of sometimes strange, often problematic agendas. The overarching aim of this book is to demystify the implications that arise when the ghost of Joan leaves the temporal and spatial bounds of medieval France to haunt post-medieval spaces and possess post-medieval personas. BIOGRAPHY Ellie Crookes is Lecturer in English Literature at the University of Wollongong (Dharawal land). She specializes in the study of medievalism, examining how the motifs, legends, and characters of the medieval past are adopted, adapted, and manipulated to suit the needs of post-medieval people. Contains an image of the front cover. Depicts the Irish woman Maud Gonne as a Joan of Arc figure, wearing medieval armour and carrying a banner adorned with Irish symbols (a harp and a Celtic cross)
'The Many Joans of Arc' is out in the world!!! If you are interested in the historical and/or imagined Jeanne d'Arc, women's histories, historical anachronism, the misuse of the medieval, or occult weirdness then this might be the book for you. Available now: www.arc-humanities.org/978180270007...
Ich do not knowe ynogh wayes to saye: support public higher ed. Even thrugh hard tymes, even thrugh low enrollementes. Do not destroye livelihoodes and gut programs yn the name of an illusory efficiencye. Supportinge educacioun ys a social goode for a free societye not a return on investment.

A little medieval mantra by Julian of Norwich for those furiously trying to get things done before the end of the year
…but all will be well, all will be well, and all manner of thing will be well
Simpatico!!!
Mine was Red Wine Supernova. I think it is usually a Dolly song, tbh.
I am shaken to my core that Beyonce is not on my list. Shaken. But Sabrina and Chappell have been playing on repeat for the last 5 months so I don’t think anyone really stood a chance.
Spotify list - Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, Dolly Parton, Lizzo, Simon and Garfunkel.
Like, who even am I?
Rossetti’s ‘Beata Beatrix’ painting. Shows a woman in the foreground with her head tilted in ecstasy, eyes closed. Symbols of death surround her.
Is he one of my favourite visual artists? Yes. Do I think he is a garbage person? Yes.

Groundbreaking and shocking stuff, Steph 🫠
I am chapter 9 in this lovely collection! I examine the overwriting of Elizabeth Siddall’s identity/agency by a medievalised persona constructed by Dante Gabriel Rossetti. Rossetti sought to position himself as a successor to Dante by creating a Beatrice for himself in his own wife and muse.
🫣 🤣
9. Oh my god! The koala! Ok, so there is a dead-eyed Koala at the zoo. So you would think sentience doesn’t extend to marsupials, but then… Kylie Kangaroo comes along. Essentially, I am just begging them to pick a lane. Any lane. For my sanity
8. Ok, I think I’ve run out of steam. In sum, Peppa pig is a brat and her world tickles my brain
7. Which brings me to Mr Potato. No, you know what, I won’t go into Mr Potato because I think they know they are fucking with me with him, so I won’t give them the satisfaction.
6. Which brings me to another point (It appears I have quite strong feelings about this). Ok, 5th point: they eat A LOT of cheese in this show. And ice-cream. Lots of dairy. BUT there is a man called Mr Bull, which suggests the presence of a Mrs (or Ms!) Cow. So… what is the situation there…?
5. Second tangent re: Goldie the too-aware fish. Though the people in this world are largely vegetarian (this is not addressed, but for this to be otherwise could get VERY awkward very quickly) but BUT, in one episode they eat fish fingers…
4.Ok, two tangents. The first: worms, bees, butterflies also have strange smiling faces. The bees can be(e) a bit cheeky at times, but I am comfortable enough with their level of sentience. I am cool with the bees. I don’t want to open a can of worms about the worms, so let’s just leave that there.
3. Other animals have a level of sentience too. Goldie the goldfish has a painted-on smile and reacts to prompts and, I SWEAR, giggles in one episode.
2. The sentient animals of the PP world are, by and large, mammals. Specifically, land mammals - so no David dolphin or Sammy shark. EXCEPT
1. I find myself spending perhaps maybe a little bit too much time trying to figure out the lore of children’s tv shows. At the moment, I’m obsessed with Peppa Pig.
So, this is a stupid thread written in the hopes of cleansing my brain of this obsession.
This… was not that 🫠
Ohhhhh, spicy hot take.
What is your best student ‘hot take’ for an English lit essay, aka, a clear and funny ‘they did not read the book’? Mine is that Frankenstein is a heartwarming ‘enemies-to-friends-to-lovers’ tale. And let me tell you, they really went to town with their analysis. It was fucking great.
people who use goodreads: jeff bezos owns goodreads and if you want a better alternative there is a black woman owned company called storygraph that you can use to replace it. you can transfer all of your data from goodreads to storygraph and have your mind be free of trumpie jeff bezos! win win. 💙
Little tip for lit lecturers wanting to deter the use of GenAi: set an obscure poem/extract studied in class for the take home exam and omit the poet’s name…
I played around with ChatGPT and it throws out the wildest guesses. Note: I wasn’t seeking to catch them out, this was a post hoc revelation.
