My point is (and we all know this), it is so ironic when resilience is co-opted as a bullshit measure of commitment and enthusiasm, to avoid acknowledging these structural power imbalances???? Or even without knowing these imbalances exist!!!!

Those who come from a background of political and economic stability (e.g often white, middle to upper class, nuclear family, etc) are already much better positioned to bounce back from periods of change or uncertainty, compared to those without that privelige, just from a financial perspective
IMHO, it largely ends up βweeding outβ those who are more privelige versus those who arenβt
What can be described as βresilienceβ or βdedicationβ often times relies on background economic stability...
Unfortunately it is successful at making me do work though
Curated my tiktok to follow other phd students/academics and therefore call myself out when procrastinatingβ¦now feeling targeted by my FYP
Also been discovering how so many historical methods are still so rooted in patriarchy and classism
Pissed off today
Productive day on campus, blue skies and archives
Thank you. My Uncle is an artist and painted it for the book. My other Uncle is a photographer and digitised in Photoshop!
We finished it in 2023, working together to edit and finalise the book. Weβve been submitting to publishers but it never quite fits the exact briefβ¦.anyone interested in Northern/Manchester history itβs well worth the read!! Family trees and historical timelines inclusive
This line graph illustrates the percentage change in agency staff levels from the previous year for nine major U.S. federal scientific and health organizations between the fiscal years 2016 and 2025. The agencies tracked include the CDC, Department of Energy, EPA, FDA, NASA, NIH, NIST, NOAA, and NSF. For the majority of the timeline between 2016 and 2023, the agencies show relatively stable fluctuations, generally staying within a range of +5% to -5% change per year. However, there is a dramatic and uniform plummet starting in the 2024β25 period. Every agency depicted shows a sharp downward trajectory, with staffing losses ranging from approximately -15% to over -25%. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) shows the most significant decline, dropping to roughly -26%, while the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) shows the least severe but still substantial drop at approximately -15%.
This is the most astonishing graph of what the Trump regime has done to US science. They have destroyed the federal science workforce across the board. The negative impacts on Americans will be felt for generations, and the US might never be the same again.

Me: did you hear about the government initiative to double the UKs bean intake by 2028?
Wife: Of all the political issues going on right now, this is what they choose to prioritise?!

Fabulous day in Haworth visiting the BrontΓ« Parsonage Museum. Very autumnal and got to see the only surviving likeness of Emily BrontΓ«, on loan from the National Portrait Gallery. Amazing to see the restored artefacts and learn about their lives #history #literature #brontevillage

Yesterday discovered I have aphantasia!! When imagining or picturing something in my mind there is no image, I've always just described the details to myself with an internal narrator.
A revelation that people actually *see* things with their minds eye!!
Go on #Grimsby ππΌ
Academic historians rarely speak up like this but have made an exception in speaking in support of trans people in the UK and against the current trans exclusionary situation over there.
Not just a few historians but hundreds signed this.

throwing one out thereβ¦. Health and wellness trends as a means of individual vs social responsibility - how increasing population demand replaces food rituals and culture?! Very specific guess π

How do we value subjective experiences in mental health research?
Are peopleβs experiences of depression, anxiety and psychosis properly integrated into mental health research?
Not really.
