While acting like the entire tenure of both the Bush and Obama administrations were not guided exactly by their preferred policies. We've been locked in a policy cycle focused on accountability since 1983 yet it is treated as a "new" idea.

Part of me feels like I am reading a draft of a policy memo from Arne Duncan and the other part feels like a bad AI summary of Chubb and Moe.
Neither experience is pleasant.
It genuinely amazes me that after decades of making teachers' working conditions and students' learning conditions vastly worse that DFER types still show their faces in public and get rewarded for knowing absolutely nothing.

Oof.
Never ceases to amaze me how many still believe retention works. Like children will suddenly become motivated to learn to read if they flunk a grade and watch their friends move on. Especially when they were pushed to read in kindergarten before they were ready. nancyebailey.com/2017/10/09/f...
Nobody, and I mean absolutely nobody, prepares you for the stage of life when your kids still need you, you are supposed to have peak responsibilities at work, and your parents become frail.
It will never stop being weird to me that Bari Weiss has managed a successful and seemingly lucrative career based on mistaking being unlikable with being bravely iconoclastic.
I have on La Damnation de Faust which is probably an inapt choice.
Reviving this thread here:
Higher Education Administrators: We are fully committed to the principles of DEI and believe our institution stands for social progress in society.
Higher Education Faculty: Great! We'd like to form a union.
Higher Education Administrators: No, not like that.
Not only is he unqualified, emotionally immature, and regressive --
He also doesn't understand even a little bit what killed station wagons. As a class of vehicle, they have better fuel economy and handling than SUVs, but trucks are more macho than wagons and minivans. Men killed station wagons.
Something of a side issue, but this is more proof that Bernie Sanders has the WORST people instincts I have seen in Democratic Party politics.
$130 million could spot the monthly salary of about 55K E3s. There are about 185K active duty soldiers at E3.
So. Doubtful.
28 Minutes In: "...in the year 5786, with a world in shambles and Judaism in a spiritual, moral crisis, I am here to tell you that we will not walk away from the Call, and we will not walk away from the Promise, not of Judaism and not of Israel. Because if we walk away, we know what will remain."
I am proud our family are members at BJ. Rabbi Felicia Sol navigated every difficult turn in this Yom Kippur Sermon beautifully. We don't have to run away from hard things. In fact, we just shouldn't.

Krypto really is the POV character in this movie, isn't he?
An injured oven bird is sitting in a white hat
Maybe I can't save the world but I can save this little oven bird who bounced off of a building window.

Made this back in 2017. Feels evergreen:
I didnβt watch the clip all the way to end And was uncertain about the account hosting it. Little lesson on diligence.
I think the fact that LLMs can score above a 700 on SAT reading section, suggests we need to push hard on the Simple View, even the expanded Scarborough version, as insufficient as a view of reading, but then we'd have to get people to embrace there are elements too hard to measure.
Can I be provocative? Based on the Simple View, LLMs do read. They have syntactical knowledge, vocabulary knowledge, they have background knowledge (although not paywalled specialized knowledge), and they have some form of verbal reasoning.
Based on the reading that we MEASURE, they read.
βIβm not entirely sure this is legal to be teaching because, according to our president, thereβs only two genders,β the student says. βHe said that he would be freezing agenciesβ funding programs that promote gender ideology....I am not going to participate in this because itβs not legal.β
"Texas A&M University swiftly fired a lecturer and removed two administrators after a student filmed herself arguing with the instructor that a childrenβs literature course broke the law because the coursework recognized more than two genders."
It goes without saying that this is horrific:
