the thesis statement of our times
Below 10% paylines, you could apply 15 times - once per cycle, every cycle before your R01 lapses - and have <80% chance of getting 1 grant funded.
That's for 100% funding probablity at 10th percentile. 2025 was 50% probability at 10th percentile.
Unsustainable.

Here is the "effective payline" for each institute, estimated (by Claude) as the percentile where one can expect 80% probability of funding from a logistic regression fit. The effective payline has gone from a historic ~12% to 6% in 2025.
Graph of award probability of R35 and R01 from NIH factbook as a function of review rank percentile. As is apparent, 2025 is a significant departure, with lower award probabilities at all scores <40 and significant departures from norm, where even being in the top 10% is no longer a nearly certain indicator of success. Data source: https://report.nih.gov/nihdatabook/report/302
The data is in: the NIH goalposts have shifted.
What were once almost certain fundable scores have become coin flips and what used to be likely grants have become aspirational, leading to fewer awards.
Another manifestation of how HHS policies have led to fewer awards and less science.
Like again, it's really easy to come here on this internet and dunk on people and yell at people. But that is not going to solve anything. And apparently the answer here for this person is to just give up and let people die. Thank goodness for public health people who keep on trying.
Photo strips of moments from the Opalite music video surround the title of the presentation, “The Opalite Music Video: An Analysis by Goose Lavender.” There is also a slew of 90s clip art. Note: moving forward, Opalite Music Video will be shortened to OMV and I will not be describing the clip art. This is for the sake of clarity and the sharing of information.

I would really love it if we moved past having podcast hosts without germane expertise running our regulatory apparatuses. Anyway, take 2, I suppose. Let’s see how long this one lasts.
If you have gotten to the point that you are gladdened to learn that children have been sickened by infectious diseases, please pause and reflect for a moment.
What lore

RIP Brown-Séquard the manosphere losers would have loved you.
I think vaccines should be mandatory and I believe children have their own inalienable rights. However, that’s not the legal stance in this country, where children are considered property. So…either you customize your message for your audience or you sneer at them. Guess which one works

Has been pretty vindicating that the people on Twitter we used to argue with about COVID actually got their chance to run things and they each turned out to be every bit the incompetent fuckwit that we knew they’d be
