I still can’t figure out what’s lonelier:
-being a working mom of a baby (so no moms groups to attend etc)
Or
-trying to launch a book after years of not doing any author social media (so no connections, community, etc in the publishing world)

I’m having a morning of wishing I could chat books instead of work, so throwing some of my favorite titles out here to see if anyone else loves them!
Books:
The Abhorsen series
Swordspoint
Green Rider
The Charmed Sphere
Childhood throwback—the Unicorns of Balinor
There’s a tiny part of me that wants to re-start brooding ya hero over on this site…
But I kinda wonder if the humor will land the same?
Are there any support groups/discord servers/whatever for authors with babies? (Human babies not book babies 😂)
Still struggling with how incredibly lonesome early motherhood is
Yeah, the ever-elusive discords and slacks etc. but the tough thing about those, imho, is they categorize into groups. Published writers. On sub writers. Querying.
And that feels… isolating?
I miss 2017ish writer-social-media. I miss community and excitement and… connection?
I’m having the absolute hardest time finding a few good critique partners for romantic fantasy. I just want a fun group that writes in that genre and wants to both critique and chitchat about our books.
What am I doing wrong?
"It was too YA for me" - A review someone seriously wrote about a YOUNG ADULT NOVEL.
Adults, you are a guest in middle grade and young adult book spaces. If you can't remember and respect that, you shouldn't read books for these audiences at all. They aren't written for you, nor should they be.
I really really want to get a monthly critique group off the ground. Max of five members, probably fantasy genre. Read and add notes, meet once a month for a call.
Anyone interested?
I’ve always been told to watch my prose for dangling modifiers (Walking through the woods, the stars shone), “ tell-heavy” descriptions (rage erupted inside me), & adverb-heavy dialogue.
Lately, I’m seeing books with those things getting rave reviews. Do readers care less about prose now?
Like, I spend way too much time considering the similarities and differences of the blended genres of historical romance and fantasy romance.
Where am I supposed to go with these thoughts???
Do you ever look at someone & think: I bet they'd sell their family out for a box of Turkish Delights
Something I really miss from oooooold twitter is deep dives into topics, especially pop culture etc.
I do think culturally a lot of that has shifted to group chats and private DMs, but gosh I miss it.
I get that readers love the forced proximity vibes but I am so so tired of romantasy books having two people sit comfortably on one saddle for days.
So many new followers! Hi! I write fantasy and historical romance. I used to be funny. Now I’m just tired.
Love the proportions of this flower
Throwing this out into the void, but any YA/NA/Adult fantasy or romantasy writers looking for a critique partner?
I miss the writing world.
Anyone looking for a critique partner for ya or adult fantasy? (Or romantasy?)
Thank you!!!
I am absolutely in love with this art of my characters from my silly fae-romantasy side project.

Yes! Like, I can’t seem to figure out how to chime in—everything feels like small private convos
THE UNSPOKEN NAME. I have been screaming about how much I love this book for yeaaaaaaaars.
Oooh very true!!!
Ohhh I keep meaning to try that! I should look into the audiobook!
Tell me your favorite fantasy novel you’ve read this year? I need new books.
"[Y]ou can never give the industry what it wants, because publishing does not know what it wants." (Rebecca Barrow) is definitely one of the most astute statements I've seen about publishing in years.

If you have a secret passion for reading about other people's unbelievable streaks of bad luck, click on this. You won't be disappointed. I hate that this is written by an actual friend of mine. If it encourages you to throw $5 at them to help out, I wouldn't mind.
Hardcovers of Cool for the Summer and Going Bicoastal sit side by side on a bi flag with a basketed plant in the background. Both book covers are bi-coded in color and feature centrally located girls and both male and female love interests.
Happy Bi Visibility Week! I have two extremely, visibly bi YAs, one set in the "figuring it out" stage and the other one set long after. 🌈📚👀

"The loss of the night sky has several tangible and cultural impacts. We are losing a rich tradition of human cultural knowledge; cultures around the world and throughout history have used the sky as a springboard for the imagination, painting heroes, monsters and myths in the constellations."
