I'm really bummed at how much time I have spent, this year, not developing games. I hope all this time spent doing other stuff will have been worth it.
If I ask "what kind of soups do you have?" and they respond with "[...], chili, [...]", I think that's perfectly appropriate, and I'd be frustrated if they left it out on some technicality.
But chili is no more soup than oatmeal is.
Ah, neat! Never got to see the genesis of a "doom on x" implementation before. Nothing left but the countdown, now.
Oh, sweet! Thanks for the rec!
lol "I know more about AI than other devs because they won't intrude on topics with irrelevant technicalities that don't change the resolution of the discussion."
classic! ๐
It's wild to see someone with her bio out here "all lives matter"/"not all men"-ing for AI without a shred of self awareness about it.
Thank you! I've worked in AI long enough to know this contrarian is full of shit, but I was having a hard time repling while my eyes were rolling entirely out of my head at all of the "um, actually"s.
I wish these people would grow up. There's technicality, and then there's pettyfogging.
Captured a beautifully golden throated hummingbird at my parents' house this morning! Just a flash, but lovely nonetheless!
Randall out here with the master class on nerd sniping!
Princess Toadstool's letter from Super Mario Bros. 3, with a P wing power up enclosed.
As a dev that would very much like to add server-syncing to my local-first apps, but collect as little personal data as possible, this seems like a godsend.
Planned to roll up my sleeves and wade in to atproto dev, but this seems to cover all of the stuff I was most worried about! Awesome work!
Can't believe Hulk is finally gonna smash those like and subscribe buttons!
Hell yeah, brother! The dream of an ideal body is worth chasing, and anyone engaged in the chase is worth celebrating!
What the hell?!
We put some in the backyard from one of those seed packets, along with some sunflowers, and that was a surprisingly nice little summer garden patch for zero effort!
I wish chronic and painful ill upon jk rowling, every day.
if @bsky.app doesn't figure out how to get the account re-instated within a week, I'm out of here. If you promise decentralization, but still have the power to ostracize people I want to see, what you promised is worthless. grow the fuck up
I think a cool idea for an alien movie would be for a type of alien that easily fucks up humans, but is woefully unprepared for other kinds of earth life, so that the story takes place in a world where the aliens are a threat, but the megafauna they've allowed to thrive are a much bigger threat.

every word of this upped the ante in a hand I wanted to fold from the start
Happy for CN Teen Titans' Starfire. Glad she found a place that lets her use her voice.
As an example, look at marvel- early movies had clear hooks for each movie, newer movies are OVERFLOWING with hooks. It's so many that mass audiences just tune out.
They'll watch "person becomes superhero", but they care less about "so and so fights such and such" and "every character is there!"
You CAN write multiple hooks, and that can work, but there are diminishing returns with marketing. Muddying the water can be just as bad as saying nothing.
I empathize with how frustrating it is, but if you can't describe a hook, or the hook is too niche, you won't make sales. Simple as.
The "hook" advice is not about limiting anyone or changing your game. It's marketing advice and it is as absolute a fact as they come. It means "your game should be explainable in a way that gets people excited". If you can't describe it that way, how would anyone else (like your marketing)?
makes sense to me; the quoted exclamation was being questioned by the speaker. sharp!
Standard commode-class command module on an unspecified bipedal mechanized gun platform.
I write JS like C# and it's literally so 1 to 1 that I can port it from one to the other with regex.
If anything, CSS is the real horror story of the web platform. But I love CSS more than any other UI solution. Followed closely by DearImgui.
