"Heβd promised himself, promised his therapist, heβd stop letting his anger be the first thing out of his mouth. But here he was, a grown man, sober for three months, crying over a clogged drain while his son watched him unravel like cheap plumbing." Susmita Mukherjee mrbullbull.com/newbull/flas...
Check this out from Bull magazine: a brliant, deceptively simple.story about masculinity and grief by Susmita Mukherjee:
Rhyl then and now: 2019 (top) and 2026 (bottom) - an example of how my long term documentation of Rhyl reflects the various stages of change for the town.

Submissions for Underbelly Press Issue 6: GREED close this week, January 30!
For this issue, weβre looking for work that explores the intersection of greed and human experience. As before, weβre pairing the theme with our inherent focus: the gritty, the mundane, the uncomfortable, the human.

Theme Reveal: Greed Issue 6: 19 December to 30 January After the success of Underbelly Pressβs last themed issue, I asked whether you preferred themed or unthemed submissions, and the response was unanimous. So Iβm excited to reveal the theme for Issue 6 is greed. For this issue, weβre looking for work that explores the intersection of greed and human experience. As before, weβre pairing the theme with our inherent focus: the gritty, the mundane, the uncomfortable, the human. Weβll be sharing prompts over the coming weeks, but we encourage you to interpret it in your own way. Here are some of our initial thoughts... The desire to take more than youβre owed. The guilt of desire. The people who get crushed under someone elseβs wanting. Everyday acts of greed. The need to be needed. Taking something you donβt need. Hoarding comfort, taking and giving nothing back (emotionally or physically). Chasing performance at the cost of relationships and health. Doing anything for attention. Submissions open in just over a week! More info coming soon.

Tuesday Tasters The ward is ready for something. There is a feeling in the walls. Like dying on Christmas Day. And I can feel it coming already. That thing that happens when the seasons change. That feeling that turns my brain into jelly. The kind you find between the meat and pastry in cheap pork pies. Key Worker Emyr Payne Text is on a black background. Underbelly Press logo in the top right corner. In the background behind the poem is an image of an orange leaf.
Key Worker by Emyr Payne @emyrpayne.bsky.social
It's a visceral piece with a resonant narrative voice that blends the grit of Underbelly with the mood of autumn beautifully. With Issue 6 opening for submissions soon, nowβs the perfect time to have a taste of Emyrβs short fiction.
