You might look at the exhibition catalog from the Beyond Caravaggio show. I spent a solid hour in front of St. John the Baptist in the Wilderness when the exhibition was being installed. Also, did you go round the corner to the Portrait Gallery?
I understand that they’ve also got an exhibition on Joseph Wright of Derby going in the Sunley Room currently. Perhaps not to your taste.
Did you happen to get into Gallery A on Level 0 at the NG? It’s only open occasionally and with strange hours but based upon the pieces you’ve chosen to represent here I think you might like seeing what they keep down there.

I don’t know if this will mean anything to you, but whenever I start to lose the faith with the novel I’m writing I come here and look at your art because its heartbreaking poignancy is so inspiring. It helps me keep on keeping on. I look at your work and feel the ache and then I try to write again.
