Photo taken in the field showing what looks like an irrigation canal offset right-laterally by several meters
It seems that this π is a pretty clear view of the #Myanmar #earthquake rupture in the field.
Photo, taken from a Youtube video shot near Sagaing, shows a small irrigation canal shifted to the right by several meters because of coseismic fault motion. βοΈ π§ͺ

NSF just released a public list of terminated awards. Itβs linked on the bottom of the FAQ page at: nsf.gov/updates-on-priorities#termination-list
If you have been wondering how strike-slip faults evolve in the presence of pre-existing weaknesses, wonder no more. We got you!
Yup, the early slip along the weaknesses increase strike-slip fault roughness, just like you thought.
(Check out the cute ephemeral sinistral connector fautls in red!)
A victory for the federal scientific workforce! We could not stand by while this irreparable harm continues at NSF, NOAA and all our scientific agencies.
TODAY the judge granted our request to temporarily HALT the mass firings at federal agencies under Trumpβs Executive Order.
You guys, a conclave of old cardinals can decide on a POPE faster than an academic search committee can decide on the four people we're bringing to campus for an assistant professor search.
If you want any more indication that the ultra wealthy are parasites just look at how many programs they could save and are choosing not to. Bill Gates could literally continue to fund all cancelled NIH and NSF programs for at least a year and still be a billionaire.
#goals Iβm in the same boat lol!
This makes me so sad. I loved my time there.
We have opened a new call to participate in an IODPΒ³ Expedition iodp3.org/call-to-part...
I am one of these NSF postdocs. NSF has frozen everyoneβs access to their salaries and research stipends (that were already awarded) with no information about when they might be expected to be unfrozen. It still appears like we are expected to continue doing our work though.
Itβs official: all funding requests made on Tuesday by postdocs for their salaries have been unilaterally rejected by NSF.
Can confirm.
It me.
I used google sites!!
If you are a US-based graduate student interested in grants up to $10,000 for geochronology the AGeS-Grad solicitation is up! It's a fantastic program, especially for people without regular access to geochron facilities.

So how small are the zircons that we date in the lab? Here's a Fish Canyon Tuff zircon on a $5 bill for comparison!
finally getting caught up on @callanbentley.bsky.social's content from #jtrack #exp405 I'm lol-ing at this one: www.youtube.com/watch?v=xB6x...
I was just talking about these! So cool!
Can you add me too please?? Thanks for organizing this!!

Context-free close-up photo of mud rock with numerous fractures. Band saw marks give its surface a psrudolaminated texture. Diagonal greenish bands run across the sample, and it is peppered with pebbles of light and dark colors.

Reference object for CT scans of drill cores. A transparent tube was a transparent cap at the near end, and a blue cap at the far end. The top is labeled CT-A (anterior). The number 0 appears in the top, too, in addition to a label that says 'working.' Inside the tube are several mutually- perpendicular red lines with arrows pointing on them.
One of the ways of characterizing the hard-won #JTRACK drill core is to CT-scan it. Faults + fractures revealed by this CT-scan need to have their orientation documented. But it's easy to lose one's sense of direction inside a digital cylinder. That's what this reference is for. βοΈπ #IODP #exp405
