3/ Afghanistan began with a clear, justifiable mission: eliminate the threat from Bin Laden & al Qaeda who attacked a NATO member. When the mission switched to regime change and became a launchpad for Iraq, that was something entirely different. History foretold the result.
2/ Only with the relatively recent declassification of intelligence documents do we now know that was the case for the raid β too late for most of the battle's vets, but of some solace to those remaining.
1/ My condolences for your loss, Heather. My uncle was at Dieppe and taken prisoner. He suffered silently after the war with the memory of those who didn't return. The ultimate personal sacrifice should have a noble purpose. Pain & anger are natural if that is seen to be missing.
I agree. This is very reckless. Iraq and Afghanistan were going to be bad enough when considering their likely outcome. Compared to Iran, one might say they were "well-managed". I'm not confident the current US leadership has the competency to avoid another Libya but on a much larger scale.

a strong rationale for going to war is needed, especially in the Middle East. What's the strategy? What's the goal? Are there other ways of achieving these? Because once you go to war, it can easily get out of hand with long-term negative consequences, e.g. Afghanistan, Iraq, Ukraine.
If that were a slam-dunk, why the different justifications the US has given for war so far?
1) Israel started it, US joined
2) US forced Israel's hand
3) It's about nuclear weapons
4) It's about ballistic missiles
5) It's about regime change
6) It's about pre-emptive strikes

I get what you mean, but not a good approach in the case of new information becoming available that would suggest a different position/policy.
Hard deals donβt get done in weeks. Serious diplomacy requires time, direct engagement, and experienced negotiators. We didnβt see that with Iran, and that begs the question of whether these negotiations were ever aimed at reaching an agreement or simply a decoy. W/ @katiecouric.bsky.social

The laws in #Canada protect freedom of speech; they don't protect #misinformation, slander, hate speech, etc. The greater issue, however, is how the network algorithms and the tech corps enable & encourage the rapid spread of misinformation. This needs to be regulated and enforced.
