I'm cynical but passionate and optimistic about the future. I'm into landscape fauna ecology especially in the arid and semi arid zones. 😁 PS not a huge fan of cat and puppy photos.

It really would be worth pursuing this person, exposing his real identity (via bluesky admin), sending the lawyers after him and having him thrown off the platform for breach of whatever laws apply.

Did you say "Nature Positive"? I gather it is as wonderful as "Offsets" and "Carbon Capture" at resolving all our problems yesterday.

There's too much wadjela mysticism place on cultural practices. They have been developed over millenia to do what needs to be done, when it needs to be done, for practical reasons. It really isn't that hard if you listen. Then adapt what is needed in day-to-day land management.

How a 20yo living with his parents allegedly plotted a terror attack History was made in WA when police charged a person for the first time with preparing a terrorist attack. What do we know?

Social media helped fuel mass casualty plot against Muslim Australians www.abc.net.au/news/2026-02...

What people do not fully comprehend, is he was going to start with the Muslim community, then police, then govt. He's a white supremacists so 1st Nations and people of Jewish faith would also be on the list (as reported). This is pure hate. This is NSN/PHON territory.

Breaking: Police foil alleged terror attack plan on public buildings The ABC understands police will allege the man was plotting to attack public buildings including police stations, religious buildings and parliament.

I wonder why we are focusing just on antisemitism when arrests have been made of terrorists who've planned/or attacked First Nations and Muslims? (Actually, I don't wonder. These groups are seemingly not as important as the powerful supporters of the genocidal Israeli govt).

So... Just occurrence data then? No biometrics, no pathology, no direct genetics sampling... just photos of possibly the same individual over and over? There is a place for passive monitoring, but it is not and never will be a replacement for high quality detailed natural and ecological sciences.

I'm tired of these dim people thinking opinion trumps the data and evidence. I had to report the original post. Aeon can go take a flying leap (hopefully into educating and informing themselves of the difference between misinformation and fact).

Absolutely ridiculous statement. The impact of cat and fox can be directly linked to biodiversity loss and extinctions in Australia.

NT environmentalists β€˜gobsmacked’ at federal green light to bulldoze nearly 3,000 hectares of tropical savanna Daly River region is home to threatened species such as the ghost bat, Gouldian finch, pig-nosed turtle and red goshawk

This is just another form of child abuse - environmental degradation. It destroys the viability of life of the next generations, and knowingly so.

And yet, Murray Watt allows Alcoa to continue destroying habitat.

"Alcoa has been granted a temporary "national interest" exemption to continue clearing land for its bauxite operation while an assessment of its "cumulative environmental impact" is completed."

Man says: β€œJust a few questions…Are you: bigoted? Lacking compassion? Have you scant regard for due process and the presumption of innocence?” 2. The suggestion that welcoming refugees is worse than the horrors of the Nazi regime is a textbook example of Holocaust minimisation. Political leaders cannot claim to oppose antisemitism while remaining silent in the face of far-right extremism.

I postulate the biggest impact on the environment occurred when humans abandoned the so-called hunter gatherer lifestyle and began overproducing to deal with the inevitable waste which required exploitation of resources beyond the environment's carrying capacity.

Fine. The choice is to the individual. But if they are not prepared to deal with the science, they need to burn their degrees and not waste everyone's time.

This is a diagram of an inverse 3/4 risk pyramid. The tip of the pyramid is very small and refers to the use of offsets. To explain further. Generally, in a typical risk pyramid all sections are given equal height. It relays a sense of common shared importance only modified by the tapering of the pyramid to its tip. This particular pyramid places most of the emphasis on avoidance as the most important risk management measure. This is followed by, in even smaller bands, minimise, reduce and mitigate, and with the aforementioned tiny reference to offsets. As we go from avoidance to offsets on this pyramid we also find the qualities of these risk management options also decrease. To the left, I have declared the 3 more important aspects of risk management which decrease as we move from Avoidance to Offsets. These being, Preference (Avoidance is always preferred), Scientific Rigour (as we travel into offsets, there is less science and more speculation and convenience), and Ecological viability (impacts will threaten the ecological viability of any receiving environment, with offsets having no measurable value in maintaining ecological viability).

For all the neophyte environmental consultants, ecologists and biologists, this is a much more realistic #EIA risk management pyramid for your reference. (there is a little more in the alt text).
