This model already works in health insurance & fleet management.

Applied to EVs, it could slash premiums before adoption alone can do it.

If you could save hundreds a year on EV insurance by using a certified repair network, would you opt in?

πŸ’‘ The overlooked lever:
Pair telematics-based insurance with preferred EV repair networks.

Insurers partner directly with certified EV repair shops + battery refurbishers to:

Negotiate lower repair rates

Speed up turnaround times

Offer instant premium discounts to safe drivers

The industry’s current playbook?
βœ… Wait for EV adoption to rise
βœ… Expand repair networks
βœ… Hope costs drop over time

But that’s too slow.

According to @insurify.bsky.social’s report:

βš™οΈRepair costs for EVs are higher (esp. batteries + ADAS tech)

πŸ§‘πŸ½β€πŸ”§Fewer specialized mechanics = longer, pricier repairs

πŸ“‰Low adoption in many states keeps premiums high

🌑️Regional risks (weather, theft) add to costs

Oh yeah it's definitely not completely new to the industry. China has been doing it and Tesla also to some extent with giga casting. Legacy OEMs are just taking their time to learn these new technologies.

With federal EV tax credits phasing out soon, affordability will be the deciding factor for many consumers.

πŸ‘‰ If Ford delivers on this promise, this platform could be a blueprint for the EV market as a whole.

Preparing for electric drayage trucks: Analysis of real-world operations in the Seattle-Tacoma port region - International Council on Clean Transportation This study analyzes a population of drayage truck operations, driver surveys, and terminal gate data from ports in the Seattle-Tacoma region to provide insights for fleet electrification planning.

That's what we will be doing in our second paper where we analyze the technical feasibility of electrifying these routes and the third paper where we compare the total cost of ownership for electric vs diesel trucks on these routes.

These patterns reveal that drayage trucks are not a monolith and are quite flexible in their operations. But with the right strategy of battery-electric range and charging locations, they can all be electrified.

These trucks travel in 3 distinct routes - local (~63%), short-haul (~35%), and regional (~2%).

80% of all daily distances traveled are below 200 miles

Only 26% of the truck loads are full payload of 80,000 lbs

Around 65% of drivers are independent owner-operators

We combined telematics data from 10 drayage trucks with driver surveys from the African Chamber of Commerce and RFID gate data from 5 major terminal gates collected by the Northwest Seaport Alliance to reveal some interesting patterns that would guide the path to electrifying these trucks.

πŸ”ŒπŸ’‘How easy is it to electrify drayage trucks? The first step in answering this question is to understand the operations of existing diesel trucks.

That's what we did in this paper of drayage trucks in the Seattle-Tacoma port region.

Life-cycle greenhouse gas emissions from passenger cars in the European Union: A 2025 update and key factors to consider - International Council on Clean Transportation The study presents a life-cycle analysis of passenger cars in all major powertrains in Europe.

This new study proves that gasoline and diesel vehicles are the worst for our health. Even a hybrid or plug-in hybrid vehicle is 20%-30% better.

The faster we get rid of these polluting vehicles, the better for all of our health and lives.

Not accounting for the changes in electricity mix over time for the 20-year lifetime of vehicles inflates the emissions for battery electric cars.

Also, not taking into account the difference between real-world and test fuel consumption rates benefits combustion engine vehicles.

A clean commercial vehicle sales incentive that costs nothing - International Council on Clean Transportation A revenue- and technology-neutral manufacturing incentive program in California could encourage cleaner internal combustion engine vehicle sales while providing the largest incentives for zero-emission vehicles.

With the federal government not particularly favoring cleaner vehicles and revoking existing policies, it is now states' responsibility to devise newer innovative policies. This policy idea hopes to fulfill that gap.

Manufacturers would pay or receive a fee based on how far or close their vehicles' pollution level are to the benchmark.

This new policy is revenue and technology neutral that encourages cleaner internal combustion engines and also providing largest incentive for zero-emission vehicles.

Electrifying Fleet Trucks | Pembina Institute Electrifying medium- and heavy-duty vehicles (MHDVs) β€” trucks and vans β€” in Ontario offers a major opportunity to save businesses money on fuel and maintenance, cut pollution and re-energize the province’s automotive sector. If Ontario develops supportive policies and makes the right investments, it can unlock these benefits and position itself as a leader in zero-emission freight.

Several other studies, including our own with Energy Innovation for the US, produce similar results.

Both the market and policy incentives need to start practices that accelerate this because this has immediate health benefits.

Chery and Geely showed the biggest improvements in score, although they still remain 'Transitioners'.

Overall 17 out of 21 automakers' scores improved or remained the same, not a bad outcome at all.
