Trump is like a 2 year old who gets a shiny new toy: He finds something to fixate on - like storming the city of Los Angeles - then loses interest after a bit, and moves on to his next new, shiny toy - like blowing up small boats.
Trump can’t do a course correction because he’s hopelessly out of touch with reality. I might even go so far as to say he appears to be insane.
I just read the New York Times article about this. I think the article provided the “Why” towards the end of the article. Trump sees another President convicted at trial who claimed he wasn’t guilty & was the victim of a conspiracy to get him. So Trump’s thinking “kindred spirit.”
Now Admiral Holsey needs to testify before Congress regarding what he knows that caused him to abruptly retire.
I think Trump has fewer and fewer MAGA “fans” who think his insulting reporters is a “winning” tactic. Especially since he’s particularly targeting women. Plenty of the MAGA crowd are women and now they also see Marjorie Taylor Green pulling back the curtain on Trump.

As others have said, Donald J Trump is totally transactional in all scenarios. My 2 cents: He has no morals whatsoever & could care less if people become impoverished, imprisoned, sickened or die as a result of his actions. He has a mind similar to a serial killer.
And let’s not forget Trump’s prediction for the kiddies for Christmas: “Two dolls instead of thirty, and they might cost a bit more.”

Well, if I was face to face with Trump and called him a liar and a scumbag, that would probably agitate and irritate him. But it would still be freedom of speech. And when the heck has a flag burning ever incited a riot? Trump incited the January 6th riot & got immunity. Go figure.
If you look at the newsreels from WWII, you see our Generals and Admirals were not exactly perfect physical specimens. But they sure did a hell of good job leading and helping to win the war. Hegseth doesn’t know what he doesn’t know.

Yep. The ghost of Epstein has come back from Hell to haunt Trump in his waking hours and in his nightmares. I’ve always felt strongly that one day Trump will get his comeuppance. Maybe this is it.
Trump did file a lawsuit against
the Wall Street Journal when they brought the birthday card to light. But nothing has happened with the lawsuit, & since then the birthday card has been released to Congress by the Epstein estate. That release was due to a subpoena.
No one in the press yet - that I know of - has yet has confronted Trump or his Press Secretary with:
“OK, you say Trump didn’t write the words and didn’t sign the card. But…here’s a Yes or No question: Was the card an idea of his that he had someone else print and give to Epstein? Epstein kept it!
And I bet the reason the infamous birthday card and the photo of the 22 thousand dollar check became part of Epstein’s estate was because:

What I wish a reporter would ask Trump the next time he says that pedophile birthday card signed “Donald” is part of a hoax: “Mr President, if that card was not from you to Epstein, why did he keep it all those years & why did it become part of his estate after his death? Did you send that card?”
Trump could’ve single handedly won the Vietnam War on day one, if he hadn’t been sidelined with those debilitating bone spurs that kept him from being drafted into military service.
Trump said the boat and everyone on it were blown to smithereens “as an example” to make drug smugglers “think twice” before smuggling drugs to the U.S. The rule of law means nothing to Trump & Company. They are ruthless, hell bent on terrorizing others to achieve whatever is the goal of the moment
