School teachers, health professionals & community support workers experienced negligible real wage growth between 2019-2025. Women working in nursing lost ground, their real wages falling by 1.3% over 6 years. Meanwhile, the incomes of men in senior management and finance have surged. 5/9

On average, women earn about 87¢ per hour for each dollar earned by men. The gender disparity in annual earnings is even more pronounced, with women earning 72¢ on the dollar. That’s a gap of roughly $19,000/yr, a total of $200 billion in lost wages. One of the biggest among peer countries. 2/9

As Bike Cars Overflow, Caltrain Bans Large Bikes and Panniers - Streetsblog San Francisco New rules heavily restrict the types of bikes Caltrain users can bring on board. Years ago advocates warned Caltrain that they weren't allotting enough bike space on the new trains

This need to be called out at perpetuating sexist policies that privilege bikers without child carrying, errand running responsibilities. Caltrain would never consider banning kids from trains, why is it ok to make it impossible for parents who travel bike to use the system?

The supposed explosion of the federal public service looks less explosive if you put it in per capita numbers and draw a line graph back to the mid-80s.

Fredericton folks: mark your calendars for a public science talk by Dr. Dolph Schluter - a Canadian ecologist/evolutionary biologist and winner of the 2023 Crafoord Prize. That's a big deal - it's basically the Nobel Prize for fields that don't have a Nobel!

Paris school streets are raising the global bar for children’s wellbeing More than 300 streets in the French capital have been redesigned to be traffic free. The welcome sense of calm is not going unnoticed

Liberals to cut CBC by $192-million in 2026-27 This year’s estimates include $1.38-billion in funding for the CBC, representing a marked decrease from the $1.58-billion allotted to the public broadcaster during the 2025-26 fiscal year.

We need public media in order to counter the tsunami of misinformation we're drowning in. www.hilltimes.com/story/2026/0...

Tonight, two of the white nationalists I reported on in this piece showed up to attempt to intimidate me on a private night out at a small music venue.

I’ll have more to say tomorrow. I’m safe.

Why do perimenopausal & menopausal women in BC & Manitoba have access to free menopausal hormone therapy & we don't? National pharmacare.

This is the same pharmacare Mark Carney is now slow-walking. Not expanding.

We'll see more of these stories. This is a women's issue, @rechievaldez.bsky.social

I'm glad we have this because while I can scan 2-3 preprints with results to give them the ok to go online on BioRxiv, I could not take the time to toroughlly read (i.e. review) a Review-type paper, even before Gen AI.

Amazing site here via @timnitgebru.bsky.social - a map of big tech influence on media and media companies.

imo this goes a decent way to explaining why coverage of AI specifically has been so shockingly bad recently. Very useful resource!!

For most of the history of cars, turning right on red was illegal due to its obvious danger, since drivers looking to their left for oncoming vehicles can't see pedestrians in the crosswalk on their right. It should be again.
