The thing about being an academic is that you can never really escape the essay crisis, but your (by which I mean my) ability to cope with an all-nighter declines year-on-year.

Continually having to prove that I'm human in order to read articles about AI is becoming exceptionally annoying, and ironic.
Changing the song lyrics from βnever ending storyβ to βnever ending snow stormβ and staying here for the foreseeable.

AI's lackluster impact on pop health is not a technical issue - it's a design one. It has been given the wrong function, is being built on unsuitable infrastructure, & is too often too distant from patients/practitioners

Do I have 500 things to do - yes. Am I spending the afternoon watching the eras tour movie, using my friendship bracelet materials to make an βuglyβ Christmas jumper for our office party β¦. Also yes.

Were I a LinkedInfluencer, I'd post about what moving apartments abroad, largely on my own, when the lift in my current building has been out of action for 3 weeks and I don't drive, has taught me about resilience and self-reliance ... but if I ever become that person, I'll put myself in the sea.
Every now and then something comes along to remind me why Iβm an academic and not something more dynamic. This time it is counting the number of injuries I have incurred whilst packing to move flat β¦. typing is apparently the only safe physical activity for me.
US service digitisation is utter chaos. The first flat I rented required an e-signed lease, but a security deposit paid by cheque (never written one in the UK - ever). Moving on Monday and I paid the deposit online, but had to print and hand in the lease IRL. Consistency? Never met her.

When the next 3 months look slightly overwhelming in terms of volume of work, wearing sartorial reminders of what really matters becomes necessary.
Great! I'll email you
Awesome thanks, I'll add to our reading list
Not from our end ... we have an entire set of requirements that are exclusively about data quality.
We can't add anyone to the team because the contract was awarded based on our current set-up, but please do get in touch if you'd like to submit some evidence or be in an interview etc.

The gym in my building is currently closed. Fortunately the lift is also broken and I live in the 14th floor whilst the laundry room is 3 floors into the basement. So some 6 trips up/down 17 flights of stairs later & Iβve got clean clothes whilst getting a workout in.
I am just a girl, sitting in front of a spreadsheet, once again asking why 'wrapped content' is not the default setting for all cells.
Nothing like the pilot saying βobviously itβs very lovely here, but I hope you have your umbrellas and raincoats ready for when we landβ for confirming youβre on the flight home π¬π§
Pinky: So Brain, what did you get up to today?
Brain: Well Pinky, I tried to take over the world, but then I got hyperfixated on how to use structural equation modelling for system design for 15 straight hours, forgot to eat, and collapsed exhausted at midnight.
Pinky: same again tomorrow?
Running dangerously low on Yorkshire Tea. Active rationing is occurring. Fortunately, a reconnaissance mission to England is planned for next week. Otherwise: digital ethics, analogue anarchy.
