Motto In the dark times, will there also be singing? Yes, there will be singing about the dark times.
This Brecht poem is quoted a lot, often to invoke the indomitable enduring spirit of the arts, keeping on keeping on, a light in the darkness, and so on. But it often feels like the important word is being overlooked, and that's "about"
The Quercia delle Streghe (oak of the witches). It feels weird posting pics like this as the world burns but there must surely still be a place for beautiful things.
There are views around this city that you just presume will always be there.

"Rossiter sang the final line, 'For I still have much to offer ...' as if he was beginning to believe it."
I went to see Gene in Glasgow and wrote about it for The Times.

Lol, I'd forgotten that!
Yes, itβs terrific. I reviewed it back when it came out
Great piece about the reprehensible and avoidable hollowing out of Glasgowβs once thriving arts scene
Iβve read Kathleen Jamieβs essay Darkness and Light often, yet every time I come to that phrase βcomplicit kissβ, which is both a callback and a throw-forward, I get goose bumps because itβs so absolutely perfect.
I had such a great day, Lesley, and I thought of you x

The result is an album of great beauty which, perhaps preeminently in Wasylykβs work, expresses the vulnerability and resilience of the human spirit.β Cracking piece about love and light and @andrewwasylyk.bsky.socialβs gorgeous new album, Irreparable Parables. Wish I could see him this time round.
"You don't liberate people at the barrel of a gun. Have we learned nothing from Iraq or Afghanistan? All we seem to have learned is from Gaza. Israel has learned that you can bomb hospitals & schools with impunity."

The story of how Maggieβs Centres came into being is so inspiring, and celebrated at the @vadundee.bsky.social in a new exhibition

*Love* the new Mitski album, the claustrophobia of it, the gothic touches, the way In a Lake shifts so you lose yourself first in the distortion of water, then in the noises of a big city, the plethora of clever lines. Here's If I Leave, but it's all great. www.youtube.com/watch?v=83yY...
One constant in this moment for Iran is that @eskandarsadeghi.bsky.social is a must read. www.lrb.co.uk/blog/2026/ma...
Yeah they were very, very expensive
I think they are all really cool, Iβd love to see more men here sporting natty footwear

So delighted to be on the longlist for the @womensprize.bsky.social.

It's actually Italy, no idea why they are all French - another quirk of the place. But thank you.
We had some tinsel I missed in the clear up along a curtain rail for a while.
Yes, I will ask about them eventually. There are three sets. They appear to be seals of French kings, important families and towns.
See this is a scenario I feel Italian Duolingo with its obsession with ghosts has totally prepared me for. βLa mia stanza Γ¨ molto spaventosa.β
Man, I was just about to put the light out and now I never will
