Here is the "effective payline" for each institute, estimated (by Claude) as the percentile where one can expect 80% probability of funding from a logistic regression fit. The effective payline has gone from a historic ~12% to 6% in 2025.

Stand Up for Science plans second rally on March 7 Public health chaos and research funding cuts are inspiring nationwide pro-science protests against the Trump administration

This weekend, on March 7, @standupforscience.bsky.social is leading protests in 25 locations.

Scientists had warned about the replacement of evidence over ideology and the damage it would cause. Everything that I was worried about came true.

March is #WomensHistoryMonth.
Before 1974, women needed permission from their spouse to get a credit card or loan.

In 1972, Rep Bella Savitsky Abzug introduced the Equal Credit Opportunity Act prohibiting lending institutions from discriminating on the basis of sex or marital status.

Federal data shows that #NIH lost ~4400 people, 20% of the workforce. Many scientists have been pushed out.

~80% of NIH $ is awarded to universities & research institutions. Funding cuts are having a trickle down effect all over the country, affecting job prospects.

Slow Release Of Federal Science Funds Holds Up Research Some money allocated for scientific research has been restored to the federal budget, but the White House OMB has been slow to release it.

This is why simply passing a budget that isn't a 37% cut is not sufficient. This is why "the extent to which funding was restored" cannot be the measure of success.

It is wildly irresponsible to grant that authority to any single individual, much less one with no medical or health related training.

Good scientists are leaving NIH.

Counter to the quote from HHS, NIH is struggling to recruit qualified scientists to replace them.

My own role sits empty. NIH cannot replace me since I am still employed but prevented from working.

This admin is gutting science.

White House stalls release of approved US science budgets The US Congress rejected sweeping cuts to science agencies. But the NIH, the NSF and NASA have had their spending slowed.

This flattening may be due to the apportionment issue covered in the recent Nature story.

Perhaps this process was already in play. But approval of new appointed reviewers, even by way of confirming ppl from closing sections, has new oversight and rules. Geographic diversity. Cutting edge / Jay’s 2 year limit. High merit….but not those coastal elites. DEI persecution of topics, identity

Meet three scientists who said no to Epstein The warning signs included a web search, a mother’s doubts, and inklings of a β€œsexist attitude”

Many of the scientists Jeffrey Epstein courted were already well-established and well-funded. So why didn’t they all just say no? Science talked with three who did just that.

Here’s how Epstein approached them, and why they refused to have anything to do with him. ⬇️ https://scim.ag/40qbXnv
