Today I did my first football litter pick whilst youngest watched his team playing (he’s injured so not playing today) 30 mins along the fence and car park fringes until my bag was heavy enough. Mostly water bottles and coffee cups - but dog poo bags, vapes and crisp packets also featured.

β€˜My heat pump triumphed during Alaska’s snowpocalypse’ Juneau's severest winter storm in decades was no match for some air-to-air heat pumps

NEW: A mega snow storm - SNOWPOCALYPSE - recently hit residents of Juneau, Alaska.

I spoke to heat pump owners there to find out how they coped. Their heat pumps did great, apparently!

Another busy week:
- interviews for a new intern project officer to join the RTPI Scotland team
- an outing to Glasgow Uni to discuss metropolitan mayors and other regional-ish options for policy coordination
- a night in London for the @rtpiplanners.bsky.social Awards for Planning Excellence

There are bike racks in quite a few spots on campus - can I suggest getting in touch with the lovely Anna Clark she’s the sustainability coordinator and will be able to give you all the info you need.

You can also try David Jenkins (EGIS). He cycles to campus …

Did my bit for @rtpiplanners.bsky.social today, spending 2hrs at a high school careers fair talking about planning as a career. Many thanks to everyone who came along.

I forgot to take a photo of my stall & banner, so all I have to show is this almost empty box of chocolates!

Shows a stone building on a street corner in central Edinburgh. The building has some lettering above the open doorway β€˜Screwfix City Centre’

2 weeks ago I noticed this: a shop unit in George Street - a prime retail street in Edinburgh city centre- which has been repurposed from a bank into a screwfix store.

Last week I noticed a branch had popped up on Nicolson St too. It seems like a good thing to me - but one to keep an eye on.

I live in Edinburgh where 20mph speed limit was introduced to some streets about 10 years ago. It does feel slow at first, but you get used to it. And, evaluation studies show that it has cut RTAs. If our brains adapt to higher speeds, then they can also adapt to slower ones.
