They don’t.
They’re not news, they’re the equivalent of the musings of the idiot next to you at the bar, and 90% of the time the reader disagrees with them.
When somebody agrees with a bigoted op-ed it’s because they agreed going in.
Newspaper readers know the difference between a story and an op-ed.
