@lsangha.bsky.social has pointed out that an eyrie is a raptor's nest, but otherwise we're a bit baffled...
It's from the will of John Spurstoweย 4 February 1540, PROB 11/26/288 - which we're hoping to feature as our next @materialwills.bsky.social 'Will of the Month' blog post
Thanks #SkyStorians!

An image of an extract of PROB 11/26/288ย Will of John Spurstowe of Spurstowe, Cheshireย 04 February 1540 - black sixteenth century writing on a white background. We are asking for help to decipher a sentence that we think says 'Also I geve and bequeth to my Cosyn Hughe Aldersaye of chester an Eyrye of Sivannys yn prest lande poole'.
Looking for a sense check, or indeed some #palaeography help for this Tudor will: I read this as 'Also I geve and bequeth to my Cosyn Hughe Aldersaye of chester an Eyrye of Sivannys yn prest lande poole'.
'Priestland' is a name - but can anyone help with 'Eyrye of Sivannys'? What could this be?

Medieval Londonersโ cheaply imported mass-produced Christmas gifts look surprisingly familiar
We often imagine medieval life as dull, dirty and short, with little in the way of material comfort or decoration. However, medieval Londoners were importing toys, treats and trinkets by the boatload ...
Did medieval people buy each other Christmas gifts? New Year's Day was the main gifting day, but little is known about everyday people's present giving. Our project on London's customs records has uncovered a wealth of affordable items imported around this time: gloves and hats to toys and rattles๐งต
