People become the monsters society demands. Insincerity is a refuge from despair, and the internet is one of our last bastions of expression (and even that is increasingly being taken away). This is the outgrowth of collective grief and suffering.
Shrinking lifespans. Unaffordability. Kids are growing up in an increasingly inhospitable world, in increasingly worse schools where they may get shot, so they can grow up to get jobs that will increasingly pay them less, so that they live can increasingly shorter and worse lives.
