The real pitch for Pokopia.
The sharpest swerve from a 10/10 to a 6/10 in gaming history.
The cure for life - ripping packs and sinking pints.
love the little display shelves approach, much cleaner than having a chonker of a unit!
Glad that more people get to read this - a really wonderful essay!
Beautifully captures the cores mystique of the PokΓ©mon franchise and the playground and internet forum whispers that made the early games so appealing.
Breathtakingly stupid, short-sighted and wrong. Basically waving through the biggest art heist in human history
Sorry to hear that, Ian. I really loved your work at EG - it won't be the same without you.
Looking forward to seeing what you do with Platform32.
And finally (because I'm waffling), I'm open to full time and freelance opportunities in video/editorial/community/pr and also I am now able to produce sponsored content for youtube.com/platform32 so if you're looking, come say hi! Big love to you all and thanks for the wonderful memories <3
The talk to your friends app and the witness the horrors app being the same app is not great for the mental health is it
Really sorry to hear this, Tom. What a shitty week. I have no doubt that wherever you land, you'll continue to do great things.
Well then. After 9 years my role of Editorial Director at Eurogamer/IGNE has been made redundant. If youβre reading this and feel I have a lot of valuable experience (I do), Iβm keen to explore any opportunities (full time, consulting, other) in the games industry. I am great.
Happy PokΓ©mon day, PokΓ©pals.
This would go unreasonably hard as a tattoo
Putting the Pee back in FPS
PokΓ©mon Day - and the likely reveal of Gen 10 - is here. Here's what the biggest PokΓ©mon fans in games media - including @apzonerunner.com, @stormscribe.bsky.social, @jamesbatchelor.bsky.social, @grapedosmil.bsky.social, and @jordanmiddler.bsky.social - want to see later today:
Right? Hope? In this economy?!
Great news to wake up to
happy 30th anniversary pokemon

*sigh* and the media misery continues.
Thoughts go out to all my hard working and talented friends working under Ziff Davis.
Look after yourselves, pour a stiff drink and remember that as dark as things seem, brighter days lay ahead

Definitely an amazing first PokΓ©mon game - really charming and pretty gentle. Loved the small touches that made Kanto feel more lived-in, too.
Not sure if I prefer it to FireRed (guess I'll find out later this week) but definitely agree with you that Let's Go is over-hated and underrated!
I mean, it's only 11 hours long, so pretty much everyone, I imagine!
He watched Eternal Funshine, a 10/10 rib tickler
Fan service and pew pews above all
Art criticism ultimately exists to improve a medium, to use considered critique in order to help its creators strive to make their next work, bigger and better.
The danger in overly praising everything is that it does exactly the opposite.
Not surprised to see the absurdly high scores for Requiem, despite reviewers widely criticising its second half.
When a film falters in the finale, viewers are universally quick to offer a mixed assessment of the whole experience.
Yet for some reason, gamers and games critics rarely do this.
Couldn't agree more. Requiem goes from a Resident Evil VII to a Resident Evil 6 disappointingly fast.
Much like with Village, I'd still argue that this game is still worth playing for the brilliant first half, but after the phenomenal Resident Evil 4 Remake, attempting a lesser version of the same kind of action so soon was a big mistake.
If I was scoring it, I'd give Requiem 7/10 or three stars.
