And yet there were some serious climate policy gaffes in Canada, and we’d be wiser to acknowledge them and learn from them than pretend they never happened.

So glad I grew up in a time when most people knew that when a bully bad-mouthed a boy over his masculinity or mannerisms that it was the bully’s behaviour that needed changing and not the boy’s body.
Great piece, very much enjoyed reading it.
Or is this another 20th century solution in a 21st century world?
What are Europe’s high latency data storage needs? Can some of these be met by off-continent power generation and data storage in North America? If so, it would be a fraction of the cost.
“Predictions are probabilistic, evidence-based statements about the most likely future outcome, often relying on current trends. Projections, conversely, are conditional scenarios detailing what could happen if specific assumptions or input variables change.”
The yellow lines are predictions.
Plenty of opportunity then for a moderate alternative. Is there such a party in GB? Not last I checked.
That seems like Barackian optimism. Let’s see how things evolve.
Life is change. We’ll see a low-carbon dependable generation or long-duration storage disrupter in the next decade. Likely something modular, follows Wright’s Law (as did wind, solar and storage), and dispatchable.
Yes, I used to read regularly it but have since recovered. Thanks for the well-wishes!
Absolutely. Reading the Guardian too much puts worms in people’s brains.
Gorton and Denton is a solidly left-wing riding, with nearly the entire local councils left (or well left) of centre. Can any conclusions can be drawn about Reform’s potential national fortunes from this vote, other than that they should run their best candidates in ridings with better potential?
“If I had forecasted correctly, we would have had more snow.” That’s the past subjunctive. It’s correct.
“The forecasted amount of snow was 40 cm.” Also correct, as an adjective.
Not sure of your sources, as I see nothing online that precludes using “forecasted” in those ways.
Sorry @dougsaunders.bsky.social, I think I meant to say “skeptical”. 😉
Colour me sceptical. Are you sure forecasted is not being used as an adjective?
Will the urban population be higher in 2120 than in 2023? Urban populations have very low fertility rates. The rural migrants will largely replace the urbanites never born until there are too few rural migrants. That will happen prior to 2120 under almost all credible population projections.
Yet, there’s no feedback loop between BC cutting its emissions and any reduction in extreme heat or wildfires. For most people, it’s about tangible co-benefits to emissions reductions, not meeting abstract targets. The climate crowd, sadly, has been a flag-bearer in the parade of the short-sighted.
Playing to the electorate’s priorities. Abacus poll this week.

😂
Climate is like Pluto. No longer a body with any electoral gravitational force.

I’ve never understood the high levels of dispositional negativity in the climate crowd. Almost all climate mitigating technologies and activities entail cleaner air, less noise, healthier lives and lower costs.
If fighting climate change isn’t making you happier seek your joy elsewhere!
A friend of my parents used to smoke a pack of cigarettes a day. The day before he finally quit, he smoked two packs!!
This sounds like climate Puritanism. Needlessly advancing the replacement of contingency coal that rarely operates or acts only as reserve capacity makes little economic or ecological sense.
Maybe. The solution to high prices is high prices. Innovations follow and pressure builds to develop anything below the increased marginal cost of natural gas generation. Natural gas fuel costs are but a portion of total heating bills, and energy an even smaller portion of electricity bills.
How odd. The survey forgot to include… “your parents’ generation”.
Some of the biggest savings from batteries throughout the distribution system may be in the “need” for more interprovincial transmission.
The real echo chamber perspective is that reading widely is making liberals more tolerant. It’s not, a fact known for many years now.

The Carter World Series winning homer and the Bautista Division Series bat flip (in a season when the Blue Jays did not even reach the World Series) may have occurred in the same league but as historical events they aren’t in the same league.
An LNG export terminal in Churchill, maybe. Oil tankers plying these waters is a very different impact scenario. Communities on Hudson Bay and James Bay have worked for decades to minimize oil shipping by barge by electrifying. Wab may find himself way offside here.
