Yesterday, I met with a student looking to improve and I drew on my experiences in college – I really started to excell when I started working with my peers.
Working on problem sets together and late night study groups in the library were some of the best parts of school.
I can’t imagine how demoralizing this is to read if you work in public health.
While others with more resources will either be favored or can develop workarounds.
I am not a fan of this timeline.
I don't think the "Einstein" or other AI replacing the important steps of learning, esp in higher ed, would be posing quite the challenge it is right now if students hadn't been sent the message their entire lives that the point of college is to get good grades and a high paying job, not to learn.
Not sure if this will help spur an education revolution or cause folks to move away from online based education.
Either way, sign me up for the Butlerian Jihad.

What kills me is the amount of damage done via departments closed, people fired, and grants frozen/cancelled.

I know a number of folks who have left the K-12 system across the Midwest, so I know it's not a localized Iowa issue.
Seeing the hostility increase over the last 15 years, and in particular starting with the 2017 legislative session, it's been unpleasant.
What baffles me is what's the game plan for attracting folks to this part of the world?
It's definitely not a tourist destination, outside of CAFO enthusiasts.
I went to grad school in Ames in the early 2000s and had a few locals in my grad class. One of them was an absolute curve wrecker.

Some of the programs I worked with via grant funding got hit last Spring, bounced back slightly this Spring, but don't know if they'll survive the legislative session.
