I’ve had a very similar thought. You used to see weird-ass art cars sometimes. Because people had the time and the money to waste a beater car turning it into an art car. The people that would do this can no longer afford to do this, and that’s very sad to me.

The data was indeed super clear that algorithmic was preferred when I was working in this industry. But I think most algorithms suffer from what I call a “no novelty bias”. They figure out what cluster you’re in and show you stuff from ONLY that cluster.
Sounds like some UNHAPPY movers next time you change abode!
Recursive feedback mechanisms without external corrections start to exhibit WEIRD behaviors. And people exposed only to a single cluster of thoughts by people exposed to that single cluster get WEIRD. Novelty.
Side note: I think we’re going to see this same dynamic in a few years with AI. Most of the web will be AI generated content. And we’ll be training updates to the AIs using the AI generated content on the web.
