Notes from the code RBY Poison: immune if target is Poison (regardless of move type) - but all the moves are poison FreezeBurnParalyze side effect: immune if target type matches the move type. (which means Body Slam and Lick can paralyze electrics, but not their own type) Paralyze (thunder wave, stun spore, glare): immune if the move is Electric AND the target is Ground (hardcoded interaction) GSC Poison side effect: immune if the target is poison type OR immune by the type chart (results in twineedle being able to poison steel types, but not any other move) Burn side effect: immune if target matches move type (unless they are both normal type) Freeze side effect: immune if target matches move type (unless they are both normal type) Paralyze side effect: calculates immunity using the type chart (Foresight + Body Slam can paralyze ghosts) Poison (poisonpowder, poison gas, toxic): immune if the target is poison type OR immune by the type chart (steel types are immune to all of these moves) Paralyze (thunder wave, stun spore, glare): calculates immunity using the type chart (affects thunder wave on ground and glare on ghost) (Foresight + Glare can paralyze ghosts) TriStatusChance (tri attack side effect): follows the logic of BattleCommand_ParalyzeTarget, BattleCommand_FreezeTarget, or BattleCommand_ParalyzeTarget RSE poison - Poison and Steel-types have a universal immunity to poison burn - Fire-types have a universal immunity to burn freeze - Ice-types have a universal immunity to freeze paralysis - Follows the type chart to determine immunity, even for status moves (affects Thunder Wave and Glare) DPP/BW poison - Poison and Steel-types have a universal immunity to poison fire - Fire-types have a universal immunity to burn freeze - Ice-types have a universal immunity to freeze paralysis - Thunder Wave alone is hardcoded to follow the type chart, despite being a status move BW: Same as above XY+: Electrics immune to paralysis, grass types immune to powder moves.
Do you know how Pokemon types being immune to status conditions work? There are *way* more inconsistencies between generations (and within them) than you'd expect.
An article from cryptocurrency news webside Decrypt covering an alleged "crypto gaming handheld" SuiPlay0x1, aiming at a 2025 release.
You don't get it, bro. You just need to get a crypto gaming handheld console, bro. The only console designed for fast spending action.
Of course, this has lead to a race to the bottom of sorts in the long run since their space has got so used to unpolished, dated tech that openly grifter newcomers can do the same on purpose, all in the name of "being still early" in the so-called "web3".
So people who were not necessarily the most experienced or competent in their fields (e.g. amateurs or rookies who happened to be crypto enthusiasts too) suddenly became rich, whether briefly or permanently.
Not saying this is the reason but —no joke— a lot of people who had never handled more than a couple thousand dollars ended up with millions in capital due to the pandemic era cryptobubble. Not just the gambling, ponzi En Ef Tee types, but *dev teams* as well.

Yes, my bio says I'm from Panama. No, don't ask me how I feel about the American Cheeto threatening to invade my country to take the Canal back and doubling down after my president stood up against it.
That Gentle Slap was not so gentle
Maybe some kids now are of a much more "plug-and-play" disposition (which, ironically enough, was how things were at first before consoles with hard drives became a thing), but I remember when I had to set up my PS3 with very slow (for today's standards) internet and all that. Tedious but fun.
Also, due to DOA's nature as a de facto companion to Itagaki's Ninja Gaiden reboot, DOA's strength also relies heavily on the Ninja Gaiden brand, which hasn't been worked on anymore by Koei Tecmo either. Kasumi's character needs Ayane and Ayane needs Ryu Hayabusa. Simple as that.
And even if we argued DOA *was* competent as a fighting game, you need to market it as such, both directly and through word of mouth. That matter, of course, tends to be beyond game design's reach. It's largely marketing strategy at that point, which creatives and devs alike can't handle themselves.
Like, if it was simply the seuxalization, Skullgirls wouldn't be a thing (AKA a game whose problematic issues with female oversexualization overlap with real-life harrassment and an overall male chauvinist worldview of one individual). But the game is competent *as a fighting game*.
All of this is full of a subjective angle, of course, but I feel like the whole "hot women"/"sex sells" premise became too much for DOA's own good, to the point that a good portion of the fanbase just expected more hot women in hot outfits, etc. and less FG innovation.
3) Moreover, even the name "Venus Vacation" is featured more prominently than "Dead or Alive", which could signal a "Rabbids; not Rayman" moment.
4) Also, Mai clearly went on to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of King of Fighters on Street Fighter 6 instead, alongside Fatal Fury co-star Terry.
Thinking about it, I wouldn't want to be Tomonobu Itagaki right now:
1) Tekken is the top fighting game right now, meaning his vision of DOA dethroning it didn't fulfill.
2) Koei Tecmo controls the franchise on their own now and their only upcoming release is another "Xtreme" spin-off. Asia-only ofc

Aww hell naw they doin premium gacha now
TPC should make inflationary expansions just for the sheer sillines
"Limited print? Yes, 5 years ago. Let's drop these reprints!"
Games should be fundamentally enjoyable things and thus they ought to be inclusive by principle, so a game which is exclusionary by design is betraying such principles.
I could care less about "culture wars". I just happen to believe games are for everyone and they can portray all kinds of worlds or situations, simple or complex, in various welcoming ways. So this whole gatekeeping overlaps against my views.
That's where you can't call it anything else but misogyny: when girls who are fed up with the sexiness defaultism can't have nice things, but those who embrace them can't either because "they're just thirst traps" or what not. A rigged game were women always lose.
Anyways, the whole "hot women in games" thing always backfires (in the sense of exposing the creeps as precisely creeps) because then the girls who *do* identify with them and cosplay as them get harrassed by guys and even called out as "fake gamers" even if they are not posers or wannabes.
Yes, "sex sells" but maybe some people have come to realize both through maturity and societal shifts that you don't *have* to market a female character as the hottest new babe in town to make them good (?). You just have to actually put effort into their design and role in the game.
What many of the self-appointed Priests of Gaming fail to acknowledge is that a good share of so-called "hot women in games" have more stuff going about them and that's why they work. Female characters being more varied and not always looking like pin-up models doesn't make them "bad".
I might have strong opinions about GO's business model and heavy data recollection as part of it, but I love Wurmple with party hat and how it comes back every single year
Custom sprite injection over WIFI using RCE on a legit copy of Pokémon pearl :)
Grass/Fighting is an awesome combo against Rock types btw. It is, however, quite vulnerable against Flying types (x4 weakness; x2 per each of its types).
