I've said this many times before so forgive me. But horseshoe theory is to political science what astrology is to psychology: a system uniting unrelated & different things in a way that confirms personal biases

Everyone knew this classification of class was bullshit, but they kept using it because it was a useful stick to beat Corbyn with

I feel like I'm going mad whenever I read this shit. We've done what these fucking dickheads wanted! We've sold off public services, squeezed wages, cut spending, made every millionaire feel like a special boy. And still, anemic growth at best. It doesn't *work* lads!!

This guy was forced to resign in disgrace effectively because he was facilitating government access for a corrupt lobbyist for foreign business interests including a prolific sex trafficker.

They had a cosy leaving do for him, where they gave speeches about what a jolly good fellow he is.

The way the media was egging on people who were going around beating the shit out of Just Stop Oil protestors is a big contributor imo.

she should resign

I get that AI will get more efficient over time, but given how many data centres we need for the current batch of predictive text machines, I don't see how grander ambitions like AGI can be built in line with planetary boundaries. It feels like Laplace's Demon, and against the laws of thermodynamics

Mahmood did say she refuses to learn anything from Gorton and Denton because she, like most of Labour, truly believes in implementing the same polices Reform would, regardless of whether it makes electoral sense to do so.

Nobody associated with Mandelson in any way should be allowed any role that even touches on public policy. Anyone associated with him should be considered as corruptly working for billionaires. Britain will continue to be a failing country until it roots out Mandelson's corruption of the state.

"Multiple people said McSweeney's emotional farewell reduced some in the room to tears." Why? Are there VIP tickets at certain concerts they can't get anymore?

The extract of the article reads: "A senior NHS official privately urged colleagues to add more patient data into a Palantir-built platform at the same time as he was being paid to advise the US technology company.

Matthew Swindells has been joint chair of four major hospital trusts in north-west London since April 2022 and has also since then acted as an adviser to Palantir through the now-defunct lobbying firm Global Counsel, which was co-founded by Lord Peter Mandelson."

The only thing I can be even slightly idealistic about now is the potential for bottom-up community activism. In terms of the people in charge - and specifically the Labour right - I'm increasingly convinced that they're knowingly fluffing the pillows and keeping the engine running for Reform

they/them might be gian... @babado... β€’ 16m
I'm realizing that, at some point in seeing the Gaza genocide, a flame went out in my heart I haven't seen since. A steady drumbeat of atrocities and brazen sadism rewarded with, at best, tacit complicity, if not open bloodlust and frothing glee, eventually deadened something in me and left me cold.

I am aware I am a big old Debbie Downer these days, but it is pretty difficult to have witnessed the utter brazen murderous savagery of it while being relentlessly and openly lied to about what was happening, and retain a glimmer of idealism about what this system is and always has been.

Always fascinating to see an outsider's perspective of our politics and society, and this is a good one.

The culmination of neoliberal epistemology is betting markets replacing all forms of knowledge and critical discourse.

It's great for authoritarianism since it trains people to predict and hedge around world events rather than shape them or take responsibility in any way.

My column in the Herald on Sunday: the Scottish grooming gangs inquiry is welcome.
We must also confront how our third sector has become institutionally corrupted to the point where it sides with SNP ministers instead of standing with women and girls

The SNP are taking the biscuit. They chose to turn Glasgow into sanctuary for asylum seekers through their own virtue-signalling policies, and now they want the Home Office to bail them out.

Nobody seriously believes Rachel Reeves shares this man's views.
She is and always has been a good friend to the Jewish community and supports a close and positive relationship with Israel.
Unlike some others, she refused to have anything to do with Corbyn's leadership when Labour was poisoned by extremism and anti-Jewish racism.
As last week's byelection showed, we face real problems with Islamist extremism and an obsession with Israel that fuels antisemitism, particularly on the left.
Suggesting Rachel Reeves somehow supports that won't help solve it.

This former Labour MP was presented to the public urging people to vote for the Tories to defeat extremism, as part of a shadily-funded PR campaign run by God knows who. He was then rewarded for it with a peerage (a non-job for life in the legislature) by Boris Johnson. Britain, ladies and gents.
