Getting in some good guitar practice tonight. Recently been gaming more than playing in my free time, but it feels nice to get back at it learning more chord progressions in a song and practicing my favorite riffs.

Absolutely - it builds in more mechanics and less story to some degree - but it also boils down to what I’m in the mood for. Some times that’s what I want and other times it’s not. It’s a great era we live in with the diversity of gaming.

I don’t think they have the same weight culturally and I like what 13th Age did with them. Mechanically they are fairly light in 5E but I’m more familiar with PF2 and that background gives you both a feat and a stat increase. So it feels like something from a player perspective.

Pathfinder 2E is the same way - ABC - Ancestry, Background, Class - all give some mechanical benefit. Not sure if it’s good design or not, I guess I’m just used to it.

None. On a sabbatical but I’ll play a board game or two, and maybe work on a 13th Age game which will likely be what I play when I feel like gaming again. That or GURPS. Really want to play Pendragon. But don’t have the group for that anymore.

Finding the cost of entry is hard - but also discovering that with VASL and electronic rule books, it’s only expensive for me. Just need to sucker a couple of more friends in. But I’m no longer young, though younger than the old guard.
