Looks like the San Ramon earthquake swarm just came back to life β¦ maximum magnitude 3.3 so far.

Quite a spectacular sunset over the Golden Gate Bridge tonight; goodnight weekend
Heading down to LA to visit family for the holidays and the 5 is closed - eek! Detouring to eat dinner at Harris Ranch - first time for everything. :)
Seeing all the aftershocks come into a raspberry shake seismometer in Livermore, including a little foreshock to this most recent event
Definitively felt my tuchus wiggle on the couch and heard our house shake after this M3.9 earthquake in San Ramon. Didnβt feel the M4.0 last night at all. Wondering if the magnitude will end up higher? earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/...
Orange sherbet sunset colors looking at SF with city lights visible, Golden Gate Bridge, and Mt. Tamalpais

WaPo has a little article about how a big meal and/or extra stress contributes to increased risk of heart attacks this time of year: www.washingtonpost.com/wellness/202...
October 2025 was the warmest October on record for the #Arctic. Arctic sea-ice extent is currently the lowest on record for late November. My newest 'climate viz of the month' summarizes some of this latest data: zacklabe.com/climate-viz-...

Did you know that scientist donβt really use the Richter scale anymore? The most common magnitude scale used these days is called the βMoment Magnitudeβ scale. Hereβs more info π§ͺ
Happy Thankssfhusihfsudfhd ...M4.3 Earthquake in San Juan Bautista plotted with Qfaults and historical seismicity 1984-present (Waldhauser's catalog). I wasn't planning on Shake-n-bake today!
FOP Ridgecrest! M7.1 stop today and 6 years ago with Olivine for scale. Scarp is modified by channelized rainfall but offset berm is still visible!
Did you feel the M3.1 while you were in Oakland Tim?
I did but the test EQ was in Berkeley? KCRW announced it if you happened to be listening.
Did my duty for the Great ShakeOut drill and loved that @kcrw.com reminded me to do it while I was under my table!!!
These little earthquakes in Berkeley are reminding me that the ShakeOut drill is happening in ~25 minutes!
Felt that earthquake! Very lightly though - so much that I had to check our house seismometer!
A full day of astronomical delights: moonset this morning over Mt Tam and sunset just south of Mt Tam this evening
That's terrifying!!!!! Thank goodness the bicyclist walked away; lucky. I always try and take Milvia through there rather than Shattuck. Was it at Shattuck and University?
Half moonset over Mt Tam this morning

Loving weather wonks texts; the map with predicted totals would be an awesome addition to the text, but am also grateful for the link to the article in the texts.
@lastweektonight.com John, absolutely love you and your analyses - top notch and the best! But β¦ you might want to work on your resting pause faces. Trust me when I say that my kid had to poop and I had to go support her and this is where I landed.
Chris modified this figure from a Temblor article which is modified from Shirzaei & Burgmann (2013) showing location of this very early morning's M4.3 earthquake in Berkeley along the Hayward fault. It looks like it happened in the zone where it goes from creeping zone to locked zone.
Agreed!!!! Yikes!!!
Seriously felt that one - woke 3/4 of us up! From our house seismograph.
I think this is a perfect question for @dieworkwear.bsky.social
