Or, better yet, when it's a long budget document. Or when it's a two-page document. It makes me stabby every single time.
I know a Charlie Pierce fan when I see oneβ¦
WTAF. So should we get rid of Jane Austen? Trollope? The Brontes?
How to understand βCluelessβ w/o βEmmaβ, frex.
Plus, what you said.
LOVED this book, as well as the other one in this world! A third one would make me so happy . . .
Watched "Casablanca" last night for the millionth time. Everyone is trying to get to America. They all have accents and stories to tell, are escaping terrible conditions, are desperate. And they all see America as a shining beacon of a place where they'll be welcomed. Let's be that country again.
I want a bsky tag (other than the heart/like) that means βholy shit that looks delicious can I have some right now? And maybe some extra for later?β
I had mumps 60 years ago; I still remember how sick I felt. I might also have had rubella, but not measles. Thus, I still got another MMR this year.
I think I don't want details on that . . .
Nice--props to you for doing it! After making literally thousands of them for a job (where I had a 2-way sheeter), I decided I didn't need to make croissants ever again. Unless I have my own 2-way sheeter, which seems unlikely. But I absolutely understand the desire to do it, so again, props to you.
βWomen are harming the fertility rateβ + βimprison womenβ = another version of The Handmaidβs Tale.
Iβve mostly stopped buying physical books (love/use my local library, sometimes buy ebooks); youβre one of very very few authors for whom I make an exception (happily!). Iβm glad you chose to do, and keep doing, what you do.
Also: this thread w you has made me happy/given me joy tonight. Thank you.
Itβs a household song in that we all belt it out when weβre home alone. π
Honestly? I think itβs just a beautiful story.
How the hell/does a person/go to work in the morninβ¦
Prine did such a beautiful raspy song, it emboldens people who canβt sing like Bonnie to just wail away on it. Iβm at a local bar, w locals performing & it was just sung (by someone who CAN sing).
Disagree. Lots of little jam sessions play it. It works because an incredible voice can make it amazing, but John Prine is awesome too. Itβs surprisingly forgiving. one of the first songs local Chicago radio played when he died.
PS grew up near where they were made.
Also big fat ones w one flat side, when I was in kindergarten.
Yeah, βcolors.β
Also, though, crayons, w a divide btwn those who pronounced it βcray-onzβ and those who pronounced it βcraownsβ (one syllable).
Loved Witchmark and the rest too.
You are so right, though. I donβt write fiction but I DO write for a living, and working hard at it means I continued to get better. Also: freelance editing/copyediting made me better, too!
When in grad school, fellow student & prof asked what I would do/would I report if a prof assaulted me. I said "of course not--CONSEQUENCES would be to ME, not him. BUT! I'd cover the restroom walls w/ graffiti about him, all over campus." Luckily didn't have to do that; hate that it's "luckily."
Local Wine Shop had a fancy wine tasting in December; I indulged in some $$ bottles. Opened one Sat.: corked. Took it back Tues., they replaced it. I said, hmm, maybe use it for education. Turns out they had a wine class last night & did JUST THAT! (I wasn't there but friend who'd tasted it was.)
The voices of Harry Kalas and Richie Ashburn echo in my head . . .
Mackenzie could do the most fun thing . . .
Like the mug; LOVE the t-shirt. Also: yay for the frother and for fancy cheese shops.
Never mind the jobs you had, tell me five classes you took in college.
Symbolic Logic
Intro to Political Theory (Hobbes to Marx)

My dad lost an eye to a cataract operation & the other eye gradually declined too, so he couldn't read. Reading was his biggest pleasure. I think it contributed to him just . . . being DONE. Donald E. Westlake; John Sayles; Elmore Leonard; Vonnegut. Found them all EARLY because of Dad.
I donβt know how/if direct messaging works here, but Iβm willing to say more privately to you. Or email your professional address, if you wantβbut only if you want that!
