Person on a bicycle. Person in IT. Person in a car. Person Down Under. Someones dad. Someones son. Do you know what the Paradox of Intolerance is?

I have more than a few Strava activities entitled "Dumplings powered" or some variation thereof.

Superiority came with the bike panniers. Double panniers, double awesomeness :-)

In my defence, I'm Australian, spelink is opshonal.

But.. yeah... mea culpa.

eBike is generally taken to be eBicycle.

eMotorcycles do exist, however they're not common here.

... and if we worked together, me riding means there is another car park available for your use.

Or would you prefer I took my car instead and took the last parking spot, leaving you to pay for one outside or risk a fine from the grey ghosts?

Aye, that is true.

Might have to spend $150 to grow a $0.45 tomato in the backyard.

Oh, I've been smug about the cost savings of a bicycle since about 1999.

Make no mistake, it's been obvious that commuting powered by spaghetti vs Dino juice is more cost effective

If it's safe and so forth.

Also means I'm not taking parking spots for those who MUST drive (vs those who choose to)

Do you also find there is never anything interesting to eat in the fridge too?

WFH days are tough I tell you.

Not even from the kitchen to the study? Peak hour can be rough with hazards like LEGOs. :-)

Ewwww. My risk appetite is higher than most and that sounds like a hard no.

Maybe a bike rack on the car and drive to a more suitable place to start/end?

To match your #whataboutism, have you considered those that can't drive due to spinal or muscular problems you may not be aware of?

A red e-trike with baskets fore and aft.

I can talk more about volunteering with the former Spastic Society of Victoria, now Scope.

Me being able to ride, and unlike others, choosing to means less congestion for those that CAN'T drive. It means more parking for them too.

Me riding means less damage to roads as well.

Also, etrikes exist.

Yay! Knew this was coming.

My father had two artificial legs and couldn't walk 1km without significant effort. With no articulation of ankles he couldn't ride a bike.

They were burnt off at 18 months old.

And, adding to your list would be those that can't ride due to sight or balance issues.

Why?

I didn't.

Do you know their circumstances on why they drive?

I don't.

So again, why? Help me understand what your thoughts were behind your statement. What was your objective?

The math of it is so satisfying you can't help but feel smug. :-)

*snort*

I was only talking about costs. Which given when I last charged the bike would absolutely haven't been solar.

... Obvious typo..

"absolutely have been on solar"

mea culpa.

YOU are better off if I'm on a bike.

I'm healthier. I'm out of the way. I've already paid for my car. I've stored it at home for this trip. I've already paid the taxes on it. I pose almost zero risk to anyone.

Me riding means less congestion.
Me riding means disabled people have a better go of it.

10.03.2026 04:01 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

HOWEVER, you should consider:

If I'm in a car, you can not pass me in traffic. On a bike you can
If I'm in a car, I need a parking spot. I will take your parking spot. Bikes require 1/10th the room
If I'm in a car, you will be force to wait at more red lights
If I'm in a car, roads wear out faster

10.03.2026 04:01 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Ha! There it is. Was waiting for this #whataboutary

I know this more than you do. My father had two artificial legs and was unable to walk more than about 1km or even ride a bicycle.

There are also a huge number of people that can not drive a car, perhaps physically, mentally or financially.

If the line at the lower-price-than-other petrol stations / servo has the same lines this evening and through the week you can remove all doubt of me being smug.

I'll internalise it like a good little xennial though.

I am dreading that. I have the tools to do a change when out on the road, but I'm not lookin' forward to it.

I do need to do a practice.

That said, I do have "puncture resistant" tires on.

Also... No, I wont go tubeless even if the rims support it. Dealing with sealant seems a real PITA.

Not so bad. My car commute ranges from 25 minutes to 90.

Bicycle is 39-41, or 45-47 depending on route.

Car route is actually _shorter_ than my shortest bicycle commute. Doesn't make sense.

How many cars did I pass today?
How many cars did I pass today? YouTube video by thebicyclechannel

The roads were trash this morning. Complete car sewers.

Reminded me of this video of a not-fast person on a bicycle and their commute:

I embrace the full lycra fit.

Work here provide free showers, towel service and lockers.

So I bring a weeks worth of clothing in, leave it in my locker, swap it out before it gets smelly.

Oh, there is also free on-site car parking. The bike locker is the size of 3 cars and can hold ~25 bikes.
