Sure! We can start checking the schedules in the summer. 😉
Sure! We can start checking the schedules in the summer. 😉
I don’t know how many she’s cancelled, but the one I saw wasn’t the premiere. So she’s sung at least 2 😂 howdy from NYC!
I’ve actually been here a while but my commitment has been somewhat sporadic. It helps to have interesting things to post! Great to see you again!
It is! Can I do it again next year???
Thank you but not quite! Coming home tomorrow.
Trip stats: 24 days, 8 cities, 6 countries, 17 operas, 2 concerts. 8 of the operas were new to me. A bunch of museums. Some gorgeous waterfowl. Planes, trains, automobiles. Good friends. Today a free day of tourism in Barcelona, to Parc Güell and then home tomorrow. 😰 😅
The final performance of the trip, another new one for me @ Gran Teatre Liceu. Tx3 to all!
It’s an interesting piece. Would welcome the chance to see it again. Howdy from Barcelona, where I’ve just arrived after my whirlwind visit to Zurich! Home on Wednesday. 😴
This afternoon @ Opernhaus Zürich for another opera new to me. Delighted to see Fabio Luisi in charge today and there are a few familiar names in the cast. After last night’s performance in Vienna, I thought this schedule might be too ambitious but so far so good! 😴
My last performance in Vienna is my first in the renovated Theater an der Wien. Both composer and work new to me but some familiar names in the cast. Looking forward to it! Tx3 to all!
I had to wait 7 years to hear her again! I think the last time was the Adriana Lecouvreur at the Met in 2019. She’s still spectacular.
Tomorrow I’ll be at the an der Wien for L’Opera Seria by Gassmann - new work and composer for me, a ridiculously early flight Sunday to catch the matinee Cardillac in Zurich and then to Barcelona Monday for La Gioconda. I may have over scheduled. 🤣 Then home on Wednesday. Whew!
Another one about which I’ve been super excited. First Anna Netrebko performance for me since before the pandemic. Last performance @ Wiener Staatsoper this trip. 😢 Tx3 to all!
She was on fire. A performance I’ll remember for a long time!
Thank you! I’m not always a conscientious correspondent on BlueSky, but I have been posting pretty regularly on the music events on this trip.
The Met did a production of this around 2018 and I saw it a couple of times then. That’s my only experience with this opera. Tx3 to all @ Wiener Staatsoper #NadineSierra
Super excited for this! Tx3 Erin Morley Samantha Hanley Clay Hilley Anja Kampe @ Wiener Staatsoper
I first saw them in 78 or 79. Had been living in NYC for about 5 years at that point, and DC stations were almost shocking in their futurism compared to the industrial age grit of NYC. (To say nothing of the cleanliness and lack of graffiti of the DC stations! 🤣)
I feel like I got to be friends with a few members of the orchestra.
Hitting the ground running in Vienna! Tx3 to all @ Wiener Staatsoper! I think I’m close enough!
Yes, singing Tatiana in Onegin. Opens April 20. I won’t be in town for the premiere but I have a ticket for one of the May performances.
NY opera fans will recognize Frederick Ballantine, who recently sang Sportin Life in Porgy and Bess at the Met.
I was unable to get a ticket in Salzburg for love or money, not that I have much of either 🙀🤣 I even stood in front of the theater with a little sign pleading for one but there were 20 other people with little pleading signs, most of whom were better looking! 🤷🏻♂️
I’ve been waiting for this for almost 8 years, since I first heard the name Asmik Grigorian in connection with her Salzburg Salome in 2018. Not just her either, a wonderful cast. Tx3 to all @ Bayerische Staatsoper.
Final performance @ OperFrankfurt pon this trip and this season 😢 I have seen this one before, more than a few times. A little bit of the Met following me around. Tx3 to all!
From the cast biographies I read (not all of them and my sketchy German renders suspect any comments I might make based on that reading 😜) it appears most of them are ensemble members. I think it’s really a brilliant concept.
It appears tonight’s production is the Houston one, which originated at the Bergenz Festival in 2010. Two familiar names: Majeski has been at the Met though not lately and I mostly recently heard Glueckert in the Gurrelieder in Berlin, already seems like a long time ago.
Tonight, more opera! Not a new one tonight, but I’ve only seen this twice, in 2013 when Houston Grand Opera brought their production to NY and 2 years ago in Munich. Tx3 to all @ OperFrankfurt!
Tonight to the Alte Oper (Old Opera House) for a concert. It was very badly damaged during the war. The exterior was restored but the interior is completely new. OperFrankfurt no longer uses it. Glad to be able to hear a concert here. It has rooms for sauntering! 🥰
First performance in Frankfurt @ OperFrankfurt. Both opera and composer new to me. Fifth new opera of the trip. Tx3 to all.
