Jobs go to computers, not overseas, w/o consideration of long term effects on labor + society. Markets boom on profits and productivity feeding domestic inequality w/o the global balancing offset from trade. Policy to “solve” one paired with policy to create an arguably worse version is inconsistent

@profgalloway.com @jessicatarlov.bsky.social interesting AI policy talk on the Moderates but made me think, we don’t talk about today’s AI policy vis a vis the admins “original sin” of globalization. Current WH AI policy is a mirror. “Curing” it with tariffs while feeding AI creates the same issue

So the White House fed reporting by news agencies they don’t like into AI and asked it for how each piece was misleading? Those media analysis on the page scream “I learned how to use structured outputs!!”

This is what we see in our model of Fed member statements. The gap on either side of this debate has been fluctuating but the blocks are really the hawks, the moderates, Waller Bowman and some doves, and then Miran on his own. I would suspect Hammack would have been a third dissent.

Ok some of these “AI” companies look like ML tech rebranded as AI. I mean if I was starting a startup that used ML/transformer model LMs I would 1000% call it AI
