Turning 24 brought some bad things back.

You'll never see her again, Pilot. Not between your sheets, nor the doorways of your home, and never in your arms again. You'll never remember that face, only the contours, contrails, burned into white vortex and wake at the corners of her smile. Remembering the trace of her hands on your back will forever be the same as surface flow, rolling and coiling and then pouring off into tides of unclean nothingness. Fluid dynamics. The depths of memory. You'll never separate us. It's all the same, now. The sea and the sky, dark blue to endless dark blue. Together, fingers interlinked, tendons and ailerons together. Infrared searching, eyes flitting. Thermal outlines of hips and canards and shoulder blades and weapon bays. Bodies, the same. Sea, like the sky. You're going to get into that cockpit again. Walk the line, that razor's edge. There's nowhere like the sky anymore, not for you. Come and chase the untouchable. Come find us, in the merge. That's where you'll feel it, one more time, Pilot. FIRST LOVE AND LAST AGAIN. MACH TWO AGAINST YOUR LIPS. TOUCH THE SKY, OR DIE TRYING.
