This week, the Department of Neighborhoods launched the 2026 New Americans Leadership Academy cohort. I am excited to see what this amazing group of community leaders will do during their year at NALA!

Columbus City Council's annual Iftar dinner last night brought together Muslims and friends from across the city for an evening of conversation over a meal. We usually call Council Chambers the living room of the People's House but last night it was a packed dining room.
Please join us! Doors open at 5 pm for refreshments and networking followed by the program at 5:30. Admission is free but advance tickets are required nationalvmm.org/events/salut...
Last night, Columbus City Council hosted our annual Black History Month Celebration and Poindexter Award Ceremony. It was equal parts moving, inspiring, and joyous! Congratulations to our awardees and thank you to everyone who came and celebrated with us.
Sending warm wishes to you and your family this Ramadan. May this holy month bring joy and harmony to your home.
Spent my afternoon boxing up and distributing Ramadan food boxes today in Columbus. It's a shame that I have to be vague about where we did this but I don't want ICE to know which church and local nonprofit is helping their immigrant neighbors.
Today, my colleagues and I honored the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at events across the city starting with the 41st Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. breakfast. My next stop was Besa's MLK Day of Service event and ending with the Department of Neighborhoods's annual celebration.
Yesterday, I had the exciting opportunity to tour the brand new OSU WEXNER MEDICAL CENTER's University Hospital. This state of the art facility is impressive! Columbus is a great place to live and work and we're blessed to have the finest medical care available.
This year is a milestone birthday for me and I hope you'll join me to celebrate! I'll reveal that special birthday number at the event as we toast the start of my third year in office.
If you are unable to attend you can donate any amount at secure.actblue.com/donate/nancy...
May the New Year bring you good health, happiness, and success in all your endeavors.
Wishing a merry Christmas to all who celebrate!
Please join me on a tour of this beautiful center which provides programing for the arts and older adults.
I witnessed a milestone moment yesterday when Ajmeri Hoque was sworn in as the first Muslim and first Bangladeshi judge in Ohio. Congratulations, Ajmeri!
Yesterday, the City of Columbus held a press conference to declare its support of the Somali community and to denounce the comments made by POTUS. With more than 60,000 Somali residents and over 500 Somali businesses in our area, Columbus stands with its Somali community.
Tonight!
One of my favorite ways to start the day is a home dedication with Habitat for Humanity! This home was one of their Women Build projects which features an all female building crew. Habitat has lots of volunteer opportunities for men and women.
Attending the Juneteenth Jubilee Day Festival at Ohio History Connection. The dancers from Ohio Black Dance did not disappoint!
Habitat for Humanity-MidOhio house dedications are always a great way to start a Saturday. I always enjoy seeing the children excitedly running through the house to see their new bedrooms. This place is just a house right now but it's going to be a home soon.
The Worthington Resource Pantry cut the ribbon for their new pantry today and this place is beautiful! The new facility looks and feels like a grocery store. If you are fortunate enough to not need a food pantry, please consider donating to one.
This weekend, I had the privilege of participating in a new home dedication with Habitat for Humanity-MidOhio. Congratulations to the Sheikh family on their new home!
Today, I attended the COSI - Center of Science and Industry Science Festival and helped plant a moon tree. This sweetgum tree grew from seeds that orbited the moon during NASAβs Artemis I mission in 2022!
I am proud to be sponsoring Moving Day Columbus once again this year! Come join us at Wolfe Park on Saturday April 26th and show your support for those in our community living with Parkinsonβs.
I will be having community hours for the Somali community on May 6 and May 13 from 5 - 7 pm. I am excited to be joined by Somali members of our Area Commissions and the newly formed Commission on Immigrant and Refugee Affairs. Stop by anytime!
Last night I attended the George Meany Awards & watched several amazing people be honored for their service to the community. This annual award ceremony is a testament to the fact that the Labor Movement isn't just about fair contracts for union members, Labor works for the community's greater good.
Join us for a special Women's History Month Event. Networking and refreshments at 5 pm, program starts at 5:30.
