Thematically its also great because its a kids movie that is 100% about death and, subsequently, living with that reality.
Like the MC in 君たちはどう生きる (the Boy and the Heron), the blue cat boy meets people who deal with death in different ways before returning to his normal life.

「Night on the Galactic Railroad」was great!
It was full of quiet, pondering, eery moments that make 80s animation so memorable (traumatizing 😉).
I especially loved how the children from the boat are normal humans - idk what the metaphor is supposed to be but human / anthro contrast is always fun 🐱👧
