Happy World Book Day! Itβs been a rather good one for me; not only did I get a delivery of author copies of The Way the Water Held Me, but I got an Emma Press badge! This makes up for never winning a Blue Peter badge.

This beautiful book from Black Pear Press launched 26 Feb; it was a privilege to read with so many wonderful poets. Copies from blackpear.net/authors-and-..., all profits go to St. Richard's Hospice. Huge thanks to editors Charley Barnes and @clairewalkerpoetry.bsky.social for doing an amazing job.

It was lovely to be back at the Birmingham & Midland Institute today for the Emma Press BERG industry day - this year as a speaker rather than a participant! I gave a talk on the process involved in publishing my collection; it was great to meet the current BERG cohort and to answer their questions.
Thank you! π
Theyβve arrived! πππ

βCraft of Careβ is available now from Black Pear Press.
My contribution to the anthology is a poem called βNight Musicβ, which is about caring for my dying wife and baby son simultaneously. My wife died at St Richardβs Hospice and Iβm very grateful to Claire and Charley for donating the proceeds of the book to this wonderful and vital charity.
Thereβs some absolutely beautiful writing here; I donβt think there was a dry eye in the audience by the end of the launch.
It was a real privilege to read at the launch of βCraft of Careβ yesterday evening. The anthology - collated by @clairewalkerpoetry.bsky.social and Charley Barnes - brings together creative responses to the act of caregiving.

Anyone whoβs followed me for a while will know that I love a good medieval mystic! Victoria Mackenzieβs βFor Thy Great Pain Have Mercy On My Little Painβ is the story of Margery Kempe and Julian of Norwich; itβs concise, but incredibly vivid and moving. I loved the meeting between the two women!
My friend took this picture of me reading at an open mic night; he thought it was funny because it looks like Iβll read poetry in return for hot drinks. Which, to be fair, I would.
It's back! Join @lunchontuesday.bsky.social and I for Submission (Im)possible online on Saturday, 18 April to focus on everything to do with getting your writing in the world, in a supportive community. It's free! Please share. www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/submission...
I am reading a novel by a man. This book has two main characters, both women. One is 50, the other younger. The portrayal of the 50 yr old is so off. As a woman nearing 50, I have huge problems with men depicting women of my age as sex-less, without passion(s), as tired, and bored with their lives.
I absolutely loved Noon - the debut pamphlet from @zainrishi.bsky.social These poems trace the coming-of-age journey of a queer Muslim, exploring changes in language and culture across generations. This pamphlet has already attracted a lot of attention, and rightly so; I recommend it wholeheartedly.
It was such a treat to hear the wonderful @jennyhope.bsky.social read from her new collection βWild Boarβ last night - her poems are powerful, dark, and visceral. @vpresslit.bsky.social
